You guys have any good racing stories that you would like to share?...

I remember my first trip up to Moroso motorsports park in my car with a junkyard 350 block and a few goodies from the other motor, so my first run im all nervous n stuff and i launch on green get like a 2sec reaction time and i just dump the clutch im roasting the tires my 60ft musta been like 4sec lol and then i go into 2nd gear still spinning and i see this caprice zooming by me lol then the car goes sideways on me so i go into 3rd kinda early traction gets regained and i fly by the caprice as im going into 4th and i ended up running a 17sec 1/4 mile, my friend recorded the whole thing and all the people got off their seats to cheer, that was pretty kool lol. then my second run i ran a 15 nothing special and then my 3rd n final run i managed to get a 14.01 but i would have to burn the clutch some out the hole and once i let off the clutch completly it would still spin the tires... 1st gear wasnt too helpful lol

Hmmm...I have so many racing incidents yet I don't ever recall running right through any of them
In my first trip to the strip ever (bone stock), I cut a decent 2.1 60' but the plugs were so shot, it wouldn't hit the shift point without letting off. So for 5 seconds, it would sit at 5*00 RPM, in 1st. I think I ran a 17.0@70. Doesn't matter anyway because I raced a 12 second S/C 5.0.
The biggest margin I can recall was vs a VW Bug. I think the thing ran a 23.XX second quarter @ 55 mph
Also, the only other 4th gen I recall racing was a '97 WS6.
Man, I didn't realize it until now...my experiences suck!!

Well, I can't say that I have any racing stories from the track, but I've had a few at on the street. I remember racin' an LS1 Z...that was pretty fun. I didn't win, but he had me by only the front clip in front of the wheels. I toyed with a new 05 mudstain...he was kinda ticked that I could easily keep up with him (too much traffic to drop the hammer ). But, my fav. was humiliating a new Celica. Now, most of the time I don't even bother with these guys...but, since the guy felt he had to go into THE BIKE LANE to pass me near a residential...DING DING, school's in . So, I keep it cool for a little bit, just making sure to keep behind him. Then, I get my chance. One part of the street opens up from 2 to 3 lanes briefly for 2 intersections. We're sitting in the middle lane, he's behind some Honda I believe and I'm right behind him. Light turns green, he hits the right suicide lane and I hit the left. I pass them both then get ready to get back into the now right lane. I look over to check and I catch his face... pretty much says it all. Just made my day. Had he just passed me, I would've blown it off as not being worth my gas. But, if he thinks passing traffic in the bike lane is cool, then its time to lay some smack down.

lol I remember you telling me about the Celica man...man I'm glad he got a taste of Loudmouth F-body.
Speaking of Celica's, I do remember walking a new one. A few years ago in College, there's a girl who thought she had the hottest stuff around, always cutting people off and speeding way over the limit. Well, I finally had a chance to show her that she had nothing on an open street. I loved her reaction...completely pi$$ed. I didn't even floor it all the way either. Heck, Steve was in the car with me, too. Remember that kill man?

I don't have any personally but me dad and i...whew! He never lost a race in that Viper and he raced everything with wheels. One day, we're on the parkway and a motorcycle paces us. My dad thought he was just looking at it so he took it up to 70MPH (limit around here is 55 ). The guy sped up to keep pace with us. My dad downshifts and punches it and the motorcycle punched it right along with us. The motorcycle finally let off at around 140 but my dad kept going to 160 or so. The car still wanted to pull. Windows were wide open the whole time too.

I've always associated street racing with "ricers." It is illegal, dangerous, and irresponsible. I don't care how good of a driver YOU are (even though its probably more accurate to say "you think you are") there are often people around who just are not capable of handling cars flying by at twice or triple the speed limit. Kings ignore pompous fools, perhaps you should too.

But, if he thinks passing traffic in the bike lane is cool
Uh oh, he's a moron passing someone in the bike lane! I'd better catch up and do illegal stuff to and teach that idiot a lesson Is that really your thought process when this is going on?

I look over to check and I catch his face...
He's two lanes away and you can make out his face? How long did you have to look? How long did you take your eyes off the road? Just two seconds? How fast are you going after two seconds? How much ground do you cover in two seconds when you're going that fast?

How can people claim this forum is so mature, a great place to sit and read and introduce their children to cars, when this kind of maturity is allowed? Hypocritical.

Well my opinion has been noted, and I'm definately in the minority here. I did a search for the words "street racing" and received many hits. I believe I counted 3 threads locked, and 150 open (including this one). In one of those locked threads I was probably teetering on the edge of being banned, and I doubt it would take much to get back into that position. I'd prefer not to be banned, but if I were I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

I'm not going to change anyone opinion with preaching, so from here out I'll just avoid posting in those threads as best as I can.

I don't get a whole lot of information here on fixing up the Firebird, which is really the only reason I signed up, but it is more than .

Holy crap, is it really that hard to understand? I'm just saying that I'm not going to advertise my opinions of street racing on this forum any more. No one cares what I think, so I'm not going to write it. Not to mention, if I kept writing it then I'd be blamed for causing a disturbance and get banned. Then I go on to metion that I'd prefer not to be banned because I do get some help and suggestions on the car.

It isn't a whole lot different from "Ya know, this isn't worth the hassle or Rockin1967's thread getting locked, so I'm dropping this."

Its a chain of thoughts describing what I'm thinking and want to express. Maybe I need to retake some writing courses...

Please note that 2/3 of the stories in this thread so far are street racing, not drag strip.

Uh oh, more thought process is coming so be ready for a change I'm going to bed because I have a lot of work I want to do tomorrow. All of which is more important to me than this jazz....

Oh Come on guys! play nice!

Who here has never raced on the street? Anyone? I didnt think so.

My "races" are usually very little. I'll need to get in front of someone, and they dont want to let me in so they start speeding up to eliminate the space for me to get in. I love having the upper hand. There is nothing they can do to prevent me from getting in. I own them.

Also, when someone tries to fly past me to cut between me and the car in front of me, I'll accelerate fast to prevent them from getting in front of me. Once again, they are helpless to do anything about it. There cars just dont have the power and authority to make the move.

A few times I have exceeded the speed limit on Colorado interstates. Never racing other cars, just topping it out to see how fast it goes. My brother and I would cruise at 145 - 150 when the interstate was strait and clear and slow to 90 to pass traffic. The speed limit was 75. We made it across the state in 4 hours. (400 miles). That included a gas stop and was a complete adrenaline rush. We had a 96 Z28 SS and a Viper GTS as cruise buddies that day. We were all going to the same place so we stuck together. The Viper passed us at 180 once. He was sailing! I should find the vidoe tape from that day. My passenger was recording the speedometer needle while it was buried and the Viper flew past us. "INCOMING" LOL.
