Yes. I would have tried to stop the fight somehow. How would you like to be on that tape and have everyone see you doing nothing at all? That to me would be humiliating. I'd rather have everyone see me get my but kicked trying to help someone . . . .

I'm sure that most people are good people like me who will want to help them. So... I don't need to help them because someone else will."

That's the bystander effect. It has nothing to do with selfishness, the people who fall victim to the effect are very good people, just like you and me.

Everybody always gets their panties in a bunch when I talk about this, because they don't like the TRUTH about human nature. You can't fight it. There's stuff inside ourselves that we don't like, and it's always hard to hear about it, but it's the truth. This effect is REAL, and it's human nature. it has noting to do with selfishness or cowardice in any way shape or form.
Funny story about that...one of my buddies is a cop in Garland, Texas. He was telling me that when he was in field training, he would see stuff happening and would find himself thinking.."Man someone should call the cops," then realize that he was the cops. LOL I guess the training is what overcomes that for law enforcement.

Your a braver man than I am then. You are aware that you would had likely gone to the hospital as well in that case. You would not had been able to stop him, and would had likey just made him more angry and aggressive. You would had accomplished nothing but escalating the situation.

I would not had sacraficed myself to stop it, but I would had done everything I could to help the guy afterwards, including being a witness for the police.
I'm with Darrin on this one. I understand your point completely Tracy, believe me. There's no way I would want to end up in the hospital. But, I couldn't stand idly by and let someone get creamed like that for no good reason. Besides, I'm 6'1, 290 lbs. know a little something . Think of it like this...if that was you on the ground, wouldn't you want someone to help? Nothing personal man, just my thoughts.

No offense taken guys. I'm only 194 lbs, 6' tall, kinda flabby and 31 years old. I have a wife, 2 kids and a 3rd on the way. I also have a double hernia and a bad back. I do not have any disability insurance and would not get paid for missing work if I were injured. How would my family survive?

I'm glad there are guys like you around, I'm just not one of them. Now, maybe if that guy wasnt so large, I'd jump in and help. But, dang!, that guy was huge and man he was angry!
