  • NFB: Is this notebook worth $800?

    http://reviews.cnet.com/HP_Pavilion_...2.html?tag=tab

The computer itself is in great shape. Only used for net browsing and never taken out of the home. I don't really know how a notebook degrades in value over time (this one is less than 6 motnhs old) so I really have no idea what the value of this noteboook is.

I would generally say no. Are you buying or selling? How long has it been used? I think even $700 is a bit high for a used one. For example, yesterday's Fry's ad shows: Celeron M 1.5 GHZ, 60 GB HDD, 15.4 screen, etc. for $750. Although it's a Celeron, that's still new and $50 cheaper.

I would have to say no. Get a new one... Gateway or Dell have great deals, not to mention the fact that there tech support and trust factor blows away all.

But, if you really want the right notebook, get a Apple Powerbook=domination

I'm a Graphic Designer... so if you want something to cook, go apple, if not gateway or dell....

I'm sure there will be some disagrees... Just my two cents

2005 GTO, Quicksilver, 6-Speed, DynaTech LT's and thats it. 366.6 hp/366.7 tq last time I checked.

Hmmmm...well, if you're selling, then I would say maybe $750. If buying, anything well under $750.
Here's a similar model, refurbished from HP:
          # AMD Athlon XP 3000+ Processor
          # Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
          # 512MB DDR SDRAM
          # 80GB EIDE Hard Drive
          # CD-RW/DVD-Rom Combo Drive
          # 15.4" Screen
          # 90-day Warranty
$949. So there's a price to base it off of. It's up to you though...

Over priced, I can build you one with better specs for the same money. The screen is what really turns me off on this machine. Any newer laptop should have a minimum screen res of 1280 x 1024 for 4:3 and higher for a widescreen. One of the most important things is screen res. as you are going to have to look at it. I personaly wont buy a laptop with less than 1400 x 1050 res on a 4:3 15" display. Plus 512 meg ram is getting a little on the small side for software. Belive me Windows XP will use upto 512 on its own if available. So with only 512 in there XP is not running at top performance and is having to swap to a slow (5400 RPM) hard drive to give space in RAM for other programs. One must also remember that the athlon proccessor is also very warm in a laptop which is not good for long life of the machine. I would look for a Pentium M equiped Centrino Laptop. The batt. life is Way more on a centrino laptop, 6 hours plus vs 2/3 hours in a regular laptop. I am happy to see a 60 Gig hard drive as theis would be about optimal for a laptop for work or internet surfing. This machine is definatly not a gamer as with a small 32 meg vram it wont play any games but old ones. This is just my 2 cents.
