    dayhm.

so... lets see...i wanted to insure our new computers would stay operating safely... so, on mine:

i have the paid version of Spysweeper.
    the free version of Adaware
    microsoft's new anit-spyware
and AOL's new spyware that came free with 6 months of aol on my computer..but i dont use the aol..just the anti spyware...

i scan very often... seems Adaware finds the most boogers... then the other day.. spyware found nothing, microsoft found nothing, but AOL found one...

    its all over the place....

    same with marys...

microsoft runs a scan every day at 2am on hers... yesterday.. it found 1, i cant convince her to use Firefox....anyway... i ran adaware last night and it found 24!!!! seems alot of her rescue forums use bravenet...and they seem to be infected with them...

i guess the point is here, you need to run as many anti spyware packages as you can, cause some catch what others dont, right?

I run Norton internet security. I haven't had a problem since I loaded it. I've run Adaware, spysweaper, and spybot and found nothing with them.

I routinely clean up peoples puters here at work and have seen Adaware detect 160 + items. How do they do it?

More anti-spyware programs can be good and bad. Spybot and Ad-aware don't exactly get along all the time. The Microsoft one seems to be one of the best so far, but its still in beta testing. Norton is pretty good too, but the Microsoft one seems to do the best job of cleaning and maintaining the registry. Another good tool is, I believe, Toolbar Cop (or something like that). Its an advanced tool, but can clean up things that some others can't.

Alot of adware is built into the cookies and popups that people usually just say yes to. But alot can comein you mail in the form of Java games pics and movies. You run the game pic or movie, get a laugh and they install programs in the background!

if you notice, i dont have spybot.......
i know about the little "tiff" between it and adaware.. sometimes adaware likes to think cookies are spyware though...thats the only bad thing about it.
spysweeper has a ton of features ..at bj's..you can get the software for 9 bucks somebody told me. i paid on line.......

Anybody got a link to the Microsoft version? I already have spybot and adaware, but the more of these I can remove, the better.

it's funny to read this, cuz this puter is going under the knife tomorrow, im starting over from scratch. nothing seems to work any more, windows installer, internet explorer (except for now), and usb ports are gone. so i backed up everything and will have it re-booted tomorrow.
