I work for a school division In Alberta Canada. I just got the report 5 minutes ago that three teens were in a High speed crash on a highwya just out of town. It is a double fatal and the third one probably wont make it. Whay do kids who are 16 feel the need to drive at 100+ MPH? And to top it off they were all drunk. This will come as a hard blow to a high school with only 700 Students. Its going to be a sad day tomorrow/tonight when they start to hear the news. What is really crazy about it is the high school has a group of student that Run a program called S.A.D.D. Students Against Drunk Driving. There are posters everywhere. How can they be so careless?

Because alot of people when they are young feel invincible....especially with liquor in their system.....that is until something horrible happens. It's sad to hear another story like this again, my prayers will go out to the families and friends of those who were lost.
There was a report that just came out that was said on the radio yesterday.
33% of 16 year olds will get into an accident.
16 year olds plus 2 or more friends ups that by about another 3 percent.
Add blasting music and it goes up a couple more percentage points.
25% of people from the ages of 17 to 19 will get in an accident.
Once you hit 20, the numbers suddenly reduce. I also think part of it is driving schools and driving programs...they're a joke. I will admit at one point, i had that feeling of invincibility. I remember hitting a patch of black ice on a lane change in the winter (in a 96 escort), and totally losing it. Luckily i was able to keep control and no damage occured, but i had no idea that a car could just lose control like that so easily. I learned to respect the power that comes with driving a car from that day on. When i was in drivers ed, you don't learn about that....you learn about statistics. The one thing everyone thinks about statistics though is that it will never happen to you. I think if during my drivers ed I was taken to an empty parking lot that had ice patches that i didn't know about, and was told to make a turn so i purposely would lose control, that i would realize exactly how easy it is to lose it and that your full attention needs to be on driving and your surroundings.
Sadly most people learn the hard wayblack 95 t/a, a4, beefed up tranny w/ higher stall converter, transgo shift kit, trans temp gauge, trans cooler, richmond 3.73's, loudmouth, hypertech programmer, 160 thermo, descreened maf, TB bypass and airfoil, trick flow intake elbow, underdrive pulleys, moroso cai, edelbrock panhard rod, bmr stb, slp sfc's, fiberglass firehawk hood, hawk pads, taylor wires, ngk plugs, royal purple fluids,...and hopefully more to come

I am sorry to hear that, man. That happens way too much in north america. I think alot of it has to do with the fact that many teens feel invincible (i.e. "It won't ever happen to me.") That, and peer pressure go a long way. And peer pressure can also include "peer support" so to speak. Meaning that the more guys you put together, especially when drinking, the more they will try to impress or out-do each other....which can often lead to them doing stupid and dangerous stuff. I did some really stupid things when I was a teen too...luckily I survived them. This however, definitely fortifies my position that I HAVE never, and WILL never take a drink. I don't have a problem with casual drinking, but it's the guys who drink specifically to get drunk and then do stupid crap like get into and drive a car that make me believe that it just is not worth it. I can't stand the smell of alchoholic drinks anyway, so I doubt I would like the taste. Drinking can lead to too many bad things...like three teens being killed in a sensless accident.
I'll pray for their families and friends. God bless them, they are going to need it.

Teens + passengers + peer pressure = fatality...it happens way to often. A short time ago here in the Denver area, a kid drowned in a lake because his peers dared him to swim across...he caught hypothermia, fatigued, and died. This peer pressure is pretty deadly in a car. You will see more and more states prohibit under age passengers with 16/17 year old drivers in the near future.'77 K5 rock-crawler project
