if they do bring back the camaro they wont be able to call it a camaro or its beter half firebird(my opinion sorry all the bow tie boys) due to the agrement they had with the canadien (sorry if spelt wrong ) goverment to build cars caled firebird and camaro at the plant in canada (now a demolition site) as for the concepts i do not like the head lamps on the yello car but apart from that wow. imo if they brought back the firebird it should be styled after the 72 trans am (just gone weak at the knees thinking about it )

Whatever they do, they have to stick to the genetics of the cars history. By that I mean, rwd, v8, affordable american muscle car. If GM cannot stay true to the lineage that made me love these cars in the first place, than I would rather them not disrespect the nameplate. Call it something else, but it would have to earn the name Camaro/Firebird/Trans Am.

I wish that GM would prove me wrong, but I really believe that they lack the will to build the Fcar again. I know that people say to have patience, but that is easier said than done. In the meantime, as long as mine's in the garage, I get to say " The Muscle Car Lives!!!" and that's enough for now.

Sorry if I highjacked the thread, but this one got me thinkin...

The GTO already has the 400HP LS2 - the Camaro would have at least 400 hp because that is the base LS2 now. I know what you are saying though - put a base V6 with "respectable" performance on the road as a base model and thrash the Mustang with the Z28 model packing the LS2. Save an SS model to beat up on the Cobra should it come out as expected. Also - the reason they are until 2007 is so that the agreement with Canada would expire - they will be able to use the name Camaro after that date - at least that is how I understand it. The artist renderings posted here are exactly what I would look for and would consider trading my car in on. Look at the interior of the GTO, look at the performance....GM knows how to do it right (I actually like the exterior styling but I am in the minority). If you build it they will come.....

In regards to the 'peoples opinion' sentiment didn't they do that with the awful Aztec?
Perhaps they took the views too literally and tried to do all of them at once.( it looks as if someone different designed the front, middle and rear without seeing what the other guy drew first!)
I agree with Bigtow in that a Firebird should be considered based an the awsome Bullnose, perhaps bring back the Super Duty, also I understand that SLP (I think) are in a heated discussion with GM over the rights to the Judge nameplate and are considering doing their own 'Judge' package.

Unless it is a car that will truely improve on what the 4th generation cars were and stay in the same price range, I'd rather see it stay dead. I have little faith in GM doing it right. I'd rather watch our cars become irreplacable classics than see the Camaro name get written on some jelly bean shaped car. I'm not optimistic.

One of two things will happen.

                1) it will be round, ugly and suck

                2) it will be great, but priced way to high to be affordable.

The current market is in sport compact. The Neon SRT, Honda Civic, Acura Integra, etc... I would think that GM is likely to make the new Camaro so it will appeal to and sell in the sport compact market. I picture a oversized Cavalier. Yuck.

I really hope that if GM decides to make a return of the Camaro name that it is an affordable worthy car, sticking with the history of the name. Otherwise, let it rest in peace. Don't disgrace it.

Is there a market for such a car? Sales of the f-body were terrible in its last years.

Well if the use the platform from Holden then it will be a very big rear wheel drive Cavalier. I cant say much about outer appearance, but the GTO, Camaro, Malibu and Monte Carlo will all eventually share the same under pinning. The new platform is to be extremely flexible in length and body shape. So at least they wont all share the same wheel base, and this leaves more room for body shape changes, rather than the current Pontiac scheme of making them all look alike.
