  • NFB I left the nest

After 24 years in the nest, I got my own place! I got a condo in the south suburbs. It's about 20 mins away from the city. I was looking at a couple places downtown, but this one cought my eye and I'll tell you why:

2 Bed, 2 bath, a balcony, and a garage. Yup, my own garage! Everything for $700.00 a month. I'm renting it off my uncle who owns the complex. He found out I was looking for a place and gave me a good deal. The best thing is I got a garage! I don't have to worry about some jelous punks keying it or setting off the alarm every night.

I'm in the process of packing my stuff together and moving out as we speak. I'm going to leave my car in the garage where it's been sitting since Nov. 15th. Once the salt washes away from a good rainstorm, I'll be parking it in my own garage!

The only real expenses I have is my electrical, cable, and my car insurance bill. My car's been paid off since the summer of '99 (got it in '96), so that takes a lot off my shoulders. Plus I have my necessaties like gas, food,....and gas lol.

    Oh, and...no roomates, just me!!

I was planning on getting married at 25, but I don't see it happening. This is my last semester at school. I'm getting my associates degree in Criminal Justice in May and I'm debating wether to go for my bachelors. Right now I have an internship at my police department and I have a feeling they're going to ask me if I want the position. If I get it, then the department will pay for all of my tuition which is a good thing.

I'll see what happens in 2 months.

                  same here!

I too was 24 when I moved out from my parents house. I also moved into a 2-bed condo with a attached 2.5-car garage, only I had a roomate. His name is Ben, (E40 on this forum) and we are still best friends to this day.

I'm actaully glad I didnt live there alone. Having a friend there was a great expierence and we had a blast tinkering with fun projects together. Our rent was $700, so after we paid it we both had plenty of cash to have fun with.

We painted the garage, carpeted it and had a heater for it too on cold days. I kept my 1995 Ultra-Z on the right side, and he kept his minitruck on the left. We kept our daily drivers in the driveway.

                  Good times, good times!!

Congrats, man! Have fun with the new place. I was 19 when I first moved out...went to university for two years, an hour or so from home. I lived with a couple of buddies in an apartment. Then I moved back to my home town and got another apartment with one of the two guys from before. Then his parents stopped paying his rent ( I paid all of my expenses) so, he had to move out which left me unable to afford my own place...sooooo...I moved back in with mom and dad at 21. Then after living there for three more years, my brother and sister and her two kids rented and shared a house for a couple of years until, at 26, I moved to Canada and married my GF of 5 years. Three years later, and we are planning on moving back to Texas. Woo hoo! Living on your own can be fun, especially once you are married. Kind of gives you that "grown up" feeling. Although, I still have to remind myself at times that I am almost 30...

I got 'booted' from the nest at 18 and joined the airforce in august of 2002 at 19, i was in delayed enlistment during 9/11 for a ship date. Having your own place with no roomates is definatly awsome though.. I know I was pumped when I moved out of the barracks finally.
