  • nfb: Opening for the Smothers Bros. today

Looks like an expected attendance of 8000, beautiful sunny day, it's gonna rock. I realize the other day that I truely am living my dream. We get so caught up in always wanting to be a little better, a little faster, etc. You have to stop and smell the roses to enjoy what you have. As a kid I dreamed about playing to large audiences with other celebrities, dreamed about owning hot rods and racing, dreamed about being rich.......... well I got two out of three anyway. I look out through the garage and out into the driveway and see my play toys. I hear the racers at the Sebring raceway going at it. Considering how my situation was at the end of last summer, this is like fantasyland. I can't figure out how things could change so radically in such a short period of time. The man upstairs must be pleased with something.

And one final thought....... I love the look of a freshly Zaino'd black paint job in the early morning sunlight.

This forum rocks and am grateful for the experience and comradery of the forum members.

Congrats!! I feel a group hug coming on..... It is so true we often fight so hard for more we forget to take in what we already have. There is a line in a Cheryl Crow song that I have always liked - "It's not having what you want it's wanting what you have". I too am thrilled with my position in life and all of the blessings I have been given! Good luck man - take it all in!!!

Have a good time Joe. I wish I could be there.

I know a bunch of musicians and I have seen the rush from being on stage. I watched some friends of mine play down in Kenny's Alley during the Olympics. From what I hear, they got the biggest crowd of anyone who played there. There were people waving there home countries flags. It was really neat. That band got such a charge out of it, that it lifted them to playing on a level I had never heard from them before. It was really neat.

I just bought a drum set and a bass amp. Now I have enough for a band to play at home. I've been going out there with the kids trying to motivate them with playing something. The 9 year old has taken to the drum set. The oldest one at 15 wants to play my Les Paul on the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. She has played the violin for over 3 years. I'm playing the bass. Fender P-bass special with an Ampeg BA115 100 watt amp. We've had a lot of laughs out there. Music is something that you can do your whole life as cars come and go.

I did get a few photos. In reality, they were total jerks toward all the staff running the event, they wouldn't shut up for a moment when anyone was around them, they screwed around with everyone else's timeframes for absolutely no reason. I did not enjoy our conversations, but their show was great. I did my thing, albiet a shortened show. The sound crew was young and inexperienced which didn't help matters either. Dang...... was everyone tense behind the scenes. I had a terminally ill relative show up at the park and she was happy to see me perform, got them vip seats up close for the show. At least that went right.

Still..... a beautiful sunny day with temps around 70 and living my nightmare.. uh... dream.

I was right there! I won an all expense paid trip to the Olympics back in 96, was there for the bombing in Olympic Park, narrowly escaped. What a mass of humanity. I've never seen so many people in such a small area. An experience I will never forget. I'll have to dig up my photos. I think I may have the almost identical photo.

Oh wow! I think the band name at the time was "Scrub The Pup". It was named that because the bass player was working at a place washing dogs.

I couldn't tell you what the entertainment was.... We were staying in Lawrenceville and driving everywhere. One of the coolest things I saw was during the closing ceremonies. A fleet of new chevy trucks with an all chrome body. That's right.... everything that would normally have been painted was chrome. They drove around under the lights in formation and the reflections were unreal. I have to dig up a photo of me standing next to one. I don't think the body was plated, I think they used a chrome plastic mylar and applied it over the original body. You couldn't see any seems, it's just the surface didn't look quite as smooth as if a plating process was done.

                            Still cool though.

Jeff, the scary thing is that in the group of photos that you posted, I swear I saw myself in a white shirt on the far left margin in front. It looked close enough for me to do a double take.
