302 in 67?
I just spoke with a guy that collects antiques and he said that 1969 was the only year chevy produced z28s with a 302ci motor. In 1967 they had a 327ci. Can you verify that to make sure? thanks..

From the second link I posted above.
"The Z/28 was a mid-year introduction, with production not getting underway until December 29, 1966. Central to the first Z/28 was its 302 cu in. V8 derived by installing a short-stroke crankshaft from a 283 cu in. V8 in a 327 V8 block. "

The 302
The introduction of the Camaro Z-28, pointed at the SCCA TransAm road racing series happened in 1967. It had only one engine selection and that was the 302. Originally, the 302 or 5 liter was made to meet the SCCA engine displacement limit for the TransAm series.
This combination was also used by the Chaparral during practice sessions at Daytona in the 2D Coupe but was replaced by the 327 for the 24 hour race.
For 1967-68 the 302 was the "283" crank was used in the 327 and it was a smaller journal design. For 1969 the 350 block and larger main bearings were used so there is somewhat limited interchangeability between the first two years and the last year.
I read where the C6 corvette Z06 uses the same size valves as the old 302 -
2.02" intake and 1.6" exhaust!
The 1969 was apparently an interim design meant to transition from the first generation to the second generation Camaro.
The 302 met its' demise when SCCA changed the rule about having to produce the engine used in the series especially when GM and Ford and later Chrysler pointed out that their engines were actually destroked production engines and that it would be cheaper on all concerned to go that route.
Tom - Yes, I still have my 1969 Z-28 with the original 302!
