  • Tail of the Dragon March 18-20

Hello F-Buds! Haven't been around lately, thought I would drop in.

About 20-30 cars are going to meet up at the Robbinsville, NC Microtel Hotel (http://www.microtelinn.com/ ) and make a weekend assault on the Tail of the Dragon and surrounding areas. Our objective is to go before all of the bikes head out for the warmer weather.

There are NSX, WRX, EVO, M3, Miata, a 350Z, S2000, a Lotus Elise and a couple of C5's signed up so far. The main caravan is coming from Orlando (This means you Joe) and Atlanta but I will be arriving from Eastern NC.

Any of you F-body guys interested?

Anybody planning on this needs to be forewarned, the Gap (as it's called) is VERY tight. It's tight for bikes, it's SUPER TIGHT for cars. You CANNOT trailer through the gap, so be prepared to drive. There are turnarounds at both ends so you can park and unload, but they are unprotected and not "official" parking places. And watch out for 18 wheelers, as some of them ignore the signs and attempt to make it through, which I don't believe any 18 wheeler ever has (if you go, you'll find out why).

So no one on this site can turn left or right? I had hopes.

      The real world isn't straight.

I'm bummed I thought Wolf and Joe were my brothers.

I think that maybe the problem is that people on here are aware of this road and how tight it is. If you've never seen it, you wouldn't understand what I mean. When I say tight, I mean tight like a bike has to take some of these turns in 1st gear at low RPM's tight. There's a couple of 180 degree turns on that road that are about as tight as you trying to do a U-turn on a 3 lane road. That's TIGHT turning. Now they have a big Miata weekend up there, and that road is awesome for such a short car. But for something the size of our f-bodies, and that our cars are more adept at running what autocross calls "high speed courses" or "Corvette courses", this road can be difficult to navigate and still have fun. I wouldn't even take my car through it when I went up there, and I know the road. And if you have a 6 speed (like I do), I hope you plan on bringing some Aspercreme or BenGay or some type of muscle rub, cause your arms and legs will be worn out.

too tight, and the fact it is an open highway to all types of traffic killed my desire to drive it.......close it off at certain times, and it's a different story
