ok long story here. This guy that i go to school with bought a 97 supra for nothing, low miles and all for like 3 grand off of this old lady. He turns around and sells it for 16 grand. With that money he buys a 90 some model civic ex. He order's and integra type r motor from japan. He puts some basic mods on it like headers and exhuast. This is "supposivly" the fastest thing in school. I hear a tale about him beating a new gto. I'm pretty sure that its bs but I just want some sort of proof. So could some of you math buffs do power to weight ratios because im not sure about the formula for it. From what I know a civic weighs like 2600 and a stock type r motor has 195 his prolly has like 230 or somethin. I'm not sure about gto weight but i know 04 has 350 and 05 has 400.

Bull sh... crap thats not a real car. How can it be when the entire thing is just a rumor? I bet the guy has a civic, but I'll also bet that he or someone else made up the Supra story. I don't know much about Supras but I do believe that 97 was one of the good years. Even a civic fanboy would keep a supra over a civic ex. There was a car like that at the strip a few years back. He had one of those Civic hatch-backs that weighed next to nothing, literally. He replaced all of his windows with lexan, gutted everything inside (all that was left was a seat, steering wheel, shifter, tach), and put one of those "Type-R" motors in it, with ~200+ hp...and has slicks up front. Here is his timeslip:

As stupid as his car is, and as stupid as he is... I still believe the GTO story to be possible. Anything can happen on the street... you never know when the GTO is going to have a bad driver behind the wheel, or if the Civic caught him off guard, or even *gasp* if the Civic is the faster car. Certainly, stranger things have happen.
I have been in a Civic with the Integra GSR motor, and it moved pretty good...

Well, I'm going to leave out all my comments, both derogatory and tongue-in-cheek.
I can tell you this though for a fact. There is a guy in Mobile that sold his 95 or 96 Supra and went out and bought a 240, which he then proceeded to do a "Silvia swap" on (JDM front end, SR20DET engine, wheels, full Tein suspension, blah blah blah). He's got like 20k+ in this car. It still won't outrun his old Supra, that had stock turbos. But at least it's still RWD.
So anybody that sold a RWD car to buy a FWD car with the thought that it would be easier to make it fast, has got to be the dumbest person on the planet. There's a guy on another board I'm a member of that bought a "Type R" JDM engine (it's a b18b I believe) that is 195hp and put it in a CRX (MUCH lighter than a civic), and he's all happy because it "finally got him into the 13's." A GTO would hand your buddy his proverbial butt cheeks on a silver platter, because a decent driver should get high to mid 13's out of a goat.
I think you ought to buy this guy one of those T-shirts that says "This just in, 16.9@65mph is NOT fast"

you said EX...so I assume it's the coupe. Hatchbacks didn't come in EX trim... HB are the lightest...but if he has a real B18C5 engine with basic induction and exhaust mods...he's clearing close to 190hp at wheels. I'm buddies with a guy with a HB Civic with a B18C5 engine...basic mods and cams and putting down 202HP on the dyno...gutted and he runs 13.8 at 100 mph.
The GTO should and could smack the lil Civic around, but if he does have a B18C5, it'll be close if he makes one mistake. BUT, the race shouldn't even close.
B18C5's pull like bats out of hell when the needle sweeps past 6500. From the roll, I don't know...but from zero, the GTO got it all the way.
Trade a Supra for a Civic...in my books, that's just dumb.

Brother-in-law swapped a b18 into his Del Sol, don't know what specific 18 it was, but it wasn't all that much faster than my Sentra (qr25 175 HP at crank stock). He did the same to a CRX when he got rid of the Del Sol. He'd leave me at an on ramp, but from a stop I think I'd pull away hard in first, keep ahead in second and probably be passed in top of third if not bottom of 4th. We never went to the drag strip to find out though.
The problem is that for some reason people are like "whoooo its a Civic its gotta be fast!" I know too many people that equate wings and decals with speed. Don't get me wrong, I know that some of them are with a lot of work, and when my brother swapped engines I was right there helping it. And the same brother-in-law has a turbo civic they're expecting to get into the 11's but they just keep running into problem after problem with the car.
But here's the all important question.... does it really matter?

I meant it basically to show that sometimes people claim "kills" against other people who aren't even racing them, much less in a situation where its even possible. Though if my boss (it was one of the VP's of my company) really wanted to I'm sure he could have cut a 180 and left me behind EASILY.... but he was still in break-in period.
