Regarding a 1st gen F-Body
As I understand it, the metering valve is found under the master cylinder and allows for pressure to go to the rear drum brakes slightly before the front brakes which allows the rear drums to make contact before or at the same time the front discs do.
The propotioning valve is located under the driver's seat and reduces the pressure to the rear brakes and was used on AC equipped cars because that added an additional 200 lbs to the front increasing the chance of rear lockup.
However, my car is 4 wheel drum brakes and I'm in the process of converting to disc/drum setup and I coulding find a prop valve under the drivers seat on the frame. Originally, the car did not have AC which is probably why I couldn't find a prop valve. Currently, the car does have AC but the lack of a prop valve never seemed to cause a problem.
There is a metering valve under the master cylinder (at least I think its a metering valve) and I've read that several people have bypassed this metering valve with no ill effects. As I don't think its causing problems, I see little reason I should bypass/remove it.
Here's the big question though.... (bolded to draw attention to it in case no one feels like reading the rest of my mind-dribble) I'm converting an old Firebird from drum/drum to disc/drum, the car has AC. Will I be ok without a prop valve? I have one coming in the mail, but I don't know if I have need of it, and if I'm correct about how its installed, I don't have the necessary steel brake lines either.
