  • Insurance guess?

hey, i'm looking at a 97 LT1 6-speed hard top. I'm wondering if anyone can give me a guess at the cost of insurance. I'm 2 months or so from 23 and have a clear driving record. it looks like i can get a pretty good deal on the car but that monthly bill's got me worried since i'll be in college and only working part time. any imput would be greatly appreciated.

That can vary greatly depending on things like planet alignment and such. I have no idea how that stuff is figured. I have called and got quotes that were so vastly different. You are not going to get a real idea until you call and get a quote.

I will probably get some flack about this but I wouldn't suggest Allstate. I know a lady who works for Allstate and they did the bate and switch on her. They gave her a good quote on a Mustang GT so she went with them. After about 5 months, they called and said "we noticed the vin number shows that you have a V8. That means we are going to have to raise your insurance from $250 every 6 months to $1250 every 6 months." No kidding. She dropped them and went with State Farm which was around $250 every 6 months. (This was about 14 years ago.) I had Allstate on my homeowners and I called to get my GT insurance moved to them and they said they wouldn't insure me. I had no tickets and no accidents.

In my calling around, Sate Farm was the best with Geico a very close second. I have seen State Farm give way higher quotes than other insurance companies too. I really don't understand how they do these quotes.

Getting a quote is free. Call some places. BTW it is smart to call before you buy the car too. Good job.

hahaha...sorry, ahem, I can cast my vote for Allstate, you just gotta find a good agent ::nudge nudge:: here is what I'm looking at on my TA...every 6 months is $876. This is a 20 year old drive we're talking about here, with a speeding ticket (or a few). Fred Bear, where are you located? Oh nevermind, you're in IN...well, all I can say, is get a quote (like everyone else here) unless you can find an agent that'll bend over backwards for you.

Oh and you will get a different quote from different agents of the same company.

WHAT?? you're only 20 and pay less than 900?? I'm almost 22 and i pay $1300 every six months---and yeah i'm a college student with a part-time job. I live in a 20ft by 10ft, studio and cook at home to be able to maintain my car! Texas is bad when it comes to insurance.

LimTeng, your insurance is completely in your name? I am 20 and I pay slightly less than $600 for 6 months, but the insurance is in my dad's name, plus it's classified as a pleasure vehicle.

How the heck do you get your's so low?!? I have no tickets or anything and the average quote for me was over $1500 for 6 months.

Allstate considers teh camaro (z-28) a perfomacne car and will not insure new customers on such. In order to get my Z-28 insured with them when I moved here to Nebraska, I had to carry my old policy for 4 months on teh Z, get allstate on my 92 camaro RS, and then add the Z after four months as an additonal car, not as a new one. Ridiculous?? YES but I was able to get insurance on it that way, and no way else.

I persoanlly like allstate and get great rates form them (course I am 53 and have a spotless driving record.) My full coverage on teh Z-28 is $120 per month, which I consider verrry good.

I have State Farm. I am 39 and mine is about $100 a month and that is with 125,000-250,000-125,000 coverage. My record is clean also.

                      you guys pay too much

you guys pay way too much! being than i am 20, for my 98z, im under my moms policy and have multiple tickets, from speeding to a bunch of other ones, but being military i think it gives me abreak, for full coverage i'm payin between 36-40 a month! I think the insurance company screwed up big time with something, because before i was deployed i was paying 184, but now less than 40. My policy says full collision and everything, i think i just got lucky. im with metlife now, was with usaa, and usaa won't insure me, two accidents and one totaled vehicle and multiple traffic infractions.

Be Very glad u don't live in NJ!

My initial quote was $4,300/yr with no points ever and 23yrs old! Full coverage. Needless to say, that is not what I pay. And yes LimTeng99TransAm, it is all about getting a good agent. When I was looking into buying the formula my agent spent a good hour crunching the numbers to give me the best he could.... all on a theoretical purchase.

I go through Allstate and the trick I have learned is to put your winter rat on as your primary vehicle and insure it all year. This cut my premiums down alot. Im 24 and pay about 130 a month with 4 vehicles on my policy including my 96 WS6.

Go to www.lowermybills.com and enter all your information in the car insurance quote page. They will email you quotes from half a dozen different companies and you can then pick the lowest.

I pay $103 / month for my wife and I both on a 94Z M6 conv, a 97 Chevy Blazer and a 95 Buick Skylark. We are both 30 with perfect driving records, so our rate is low...

We used to pay 225/mo with AIG before lowermybills.com found our Kemper Direct policy. WOW what a difference. Try it out!!
