  • NFB: $175,000 Mustang GT-R runs 13.6@104mph???

Road & Track magazine always makes me laugh..... the headlines on the cover of the April 2005 issue:

Red HOT Mustangs... we test 6 new ones

Open the pages and you see the red hot 'stangs include:

    2005 Mustang V-6: 15.1 @ 92.7
    2005 Mustang GT: 13.5 @ 102.4
    2005 Steeda Silver Q: $38,100 - 13.5 @ 106.9
    2005 Saleen S281 3-valve: $43,576 - 13.7 @ 103.8
    Mustang GT-R Prototype: $175,000 - 13.6 @ 104.2
    Shelby GT500E: $147,000 - 12.5 @ 114.0

What a bunch of crap (can I say "crap"? ).

I know these rag/mags are not the best source of info, but by comparison the same magazine got 12.8 @ 114.5 for a 2005 Corvette, $43445 base, $53,545 as tested.

But who would "pay" them to post headlines about a $175K POS? You coulda bought two Z06's for that much.....

They do indicate the next SVT will be rated at 450HP.

Yes, you can say crap, and I'll say crap too. Road & Track mag never ceases to amaze me. Norm brings up a valid point that it is all about the money, but if I was Ford I would be a little upset even embarrased that my 175k GT-R was only drven to a supposed 13.6 @ 104??

Really...I wouldn't pay anyone to put up numbers like that. Red Hot my arse! The GT-R is ugly too...

Although R&T is always on the bad side of times (clocked a '95 Ragtop TA at 15.0), that time is pathetic...and you could get 10 LS1 f-bodies for that price

So the GT is faster than a saleen and a GT-R eh?

I think for that $$$, I'll just stick with a new ZO6 and use the rest of the money for gas and insurance.

Road and Track is garbage as well....ford has to be embaressed with those numbers

motor trend only ran a 13.5 in the saleen, and 13.8 in the GT. I laughed myself.

Here's something that'll make you wonder about the new Saleen...

In the April 05 issue of Motortrend, the vehicle they delivered to be tested wasn't at factory spec and was plain to see. 19" wheels instead of the 20s plus a motor that wouldn't even pass smog. Now, granted every state has different smog requirements, but it failed the CA Smog II...good job Saleen. Plus, who would pay $44k for a car that only adds 4 mph to the slalom and subtracts 10 ft. from the 60-0 dist.? Performance is the same and its still on a freakin' 5-spd.!!! The '05 GTO will smack that thing and call it Betty. Gimme a break.

                      Must have been a typo.

Perhaps it was supposed to say: "Red faced Mustangs..."

I quit reading car rags a long time ago. Got tired of wading through all the fluff. It was not worth the money for the occasional good tech article and a poor waste of trees.
