  • What happened to Firehawk SZ50's?!?

I was just looking for SZ50's on TireRack and didn't see them. The only SZ50's listed on the Firestone site are Run Flat's. There now seem to be several Firehawk tires. (PV41, PVS, Wide Oval, Indy 500) Seems the PV tires are for pursuit vehicles (police) in the summer and winter respectively. It seems the Wide Oval Tire is the replacement. Are they as capable as the proven SZ50?

partly, because the demise of the f body... the biggest fan of them.

Ill call BridFire on monday and see what they have as the replacement comming up. the engineer that designed the sv50 line is an old friend of mine, ken ball. he used to race in Canada years ago... good dude.

      They have the Fuzion ZRi
They have the Firestone Wide Oval
      They have the Bridgestone S-03
They have some lesser Bridgestones also[750/920 etc.etc.]

When I told people a year and a half ago the SZ50 was being phased out I was denigrated by the ELITE[D. Hamburger] of the message boards, guess what I was right and he was wrong,AGAIN!!!!!!!

I remember hearing about them going away. Guess I'll have to find something else too. I was able to get a 60' under 2.0 with those tires.

they all go away sooner or later. every single sucessfull tire brand designation made, most high performance especailly... its really the name that changes... kinda like putting the word "new" on the box of cheerios thats aint changed since day one..........

            Ken:

Is there any real advance in tire design that accompanies these name changes? The SZ gave way to the SZ EP, and that was supposed to be a new design. BFG has dropped the Comp T/A and gone to the g-Force T/A lines, Goodyear has only limited sizes in the GS-C, and the F1 GS-D3 seems to be a MUCH better tire.

I would think that the tires like the SZ, Comp T/A and GS-C were "last generation" technology, or it that just what the marketing types want us to think?

From personal experience I have to say they are improving - I went from GS-Cs on my Z28 to Eagle F1s on the WS-6 - just went to GS D3s on the WS-6 - each tire improved on the previous in one way or another (I notice great grip with the Gs D3s and they are VERY quiet) - however I am sure that the improvements are not as great as advertised!
