  • Anyone run this opti replacement?

    http://www.elitesparkplugs.com/Delteqordepage.html

635 doesn't sound too bad to me. It will probably last forever, and make wire changes a breeze. I'm saving up for this now for sure

I know Fred runs something similar but I don't know if it's exactly this.

It's not really an "Opti replacement". You still need the Opti, and it feeds the optical cam position signals to the Delteq unit. I have seen a few posts with people having problems with not being able to get the car to run smoothly, and 3 posts where the engine will cut off suddenly, for a fraction of a second, with a complete shutdown of ignition and injectors, just like the engine would do with loss of low res pulse from the Opti. That problem is painfully similar to an Electromotive unit that I ran that totally eliminated the Opti, and was possibly engineered by one of the same people who is now working on the Delteq. I feel bad posting negative info on the Delteq, because the guy who runs Elite is a friend of mine, and used to be part of our car club in NJ, before he moved to FL.

Delteq has also been advertising a Stage II product that does totally eliminate the Opti, as "coming soon".... unfortunately, its been "coming soon" for more than a year. I think that's misleading, because people buy the current product, thinking they are going to get a discount on the Phase II product upgrade.

On the other hand, there are numerous people who claim it works very well. You could get some more info by going to the camaroZ28.com site, and doing a "search" on Delteq. It gets discussed there often, and with over 40,000 members on that site, its usually a good place to find info like this.
