Unfortunalty it may be all we have left. There probably going to kill off the gto just when it started to get some real muscle and then what do we have left? IMPORTS Id rather a gt500 than any import. American muscle is where its at and right now its only at ford. I never thought id ever say something like that. Granted the ls1 f-body is still one of the fasted cars out there and its only until now that ford has caught up but theve caught up and are soon to pass. The only other real option would be a z06 but I dont have a 8-9 hundred dollars a month laying around to buy a new z06.

    Its a sad year.

And to top it all off I sold my 97 T/A

That's the target price for me too... if it comes in under $40K... I am liking the possibilities of owning it
The MSRP will probably be in the 38-43K range, but the dealer markup will be awful. If the dealer markup on the 300C and the Magnum R/T provides any indicator, the cost will be about 5-8K over MSRP. I wouldn't expect getting into one under 45K in the first year of production.

Pricing is approximately $39,000. Ford mandated that the car MUST be sold for less than $40k to be viable. I hate to say it, but the 96 T/A might be going bye-bye if I can pick up one of these for $39,000. If Ford is rating these at 450 hp...they're lying. The previous Cobra's (2004) 4.6L motors were rated at 395 hp, but that was way off. Most dyno (at the wheels) close to 390 (which is about 450 flywheel hp). Hence, I would estimate that the new 5.4L motor is closer to 500 flywheel hp, by virtue of more boost and .8L more displacement. I can already see the comparison test "Bang for the Buck Shootout" - Z06 vs. Viper vs. Mustang Shelby Cobra vs. (oh yeah, GM killed our affordable muscle car )

Cobra wins hands down at $40K.

Yeah but ws6drbob, you're forgetting one thing. In defense of the GTO, $33,000 plus $6,000 for a supercharger = at least 500 hp and 500 ft/lbs of torque for a grand total of $39,000. The GTO has an advantage - usuable rear seat, no gas guzzler tax like on the Cobra, and you're starting out with more displacement (6.0L vs. 5.4L). And we all know, there's no replacement for displacement.

Perhaps GM will take notice and slap a Magnacharger on the GTO and call it "The Judge". Might make life very interesting

Someone give me Bob Lutz's phone number...I should be the marketing manager for GM!

GT500 vs re-badged Holden Monaro. The GT500 is perfect out of the box with a few suspension upgrades. The Monaro just needs help...lots of it! The car looks like something that should have debuted in the early to mid 90s. I think it comes down to the fact that the GT500 is special. The so-called GTO, regardless of the LS2, is benign like the rest of GMs cars. I remember the TV ads for the '98 WS6 "The Muscle Car Lives" campaign. It was aggressive and the masses responded; it was darn near impossible to get a WS6 for about three years. I never saw one on the lot around here; they were all prepaid before delivery. The new GTO will never strike the cord that the GT500 does; or, even the '98 WS6. I can make any of my cars fast; I don't need to drop another 30K on a bland GTO to do that. If they do make a supercharged Judge, then they need to reskin the car and make something unique out of it. Even with the supercharger, I wouldn't drop any money on it...not new anyway.

Well ok I think its kind of homely myself. I never did like the early seventys Mustangs that the body is based on.

It seems all cars now a days are boxy and square. Just not my style.

Might have to ditch both of my Camaro's, man that is sweet, it's about time Ford used the 5.4L in a Mustang. No mention of a relocated Shifter, any thoughts?
