this is an example of the classic missconception the U.S. public has about proper tire inflation pressure! (no flamming you, please read and heed).
the "max" inflation pressure on the sidewall is the tire manuf.'s max inflation for that tire. the inflation for that tire is based on the vehicle its placed on, which is dictated on the drivers door plaquard or inside the glove box on a sticker.
a tire is a complex design, and the inflation pressure playes the major role on how it performs across its entire engineering spectrum.
on his application, for that tire size, its most likely 32 or 35 psi. when you run higher tire pressure, the cord body, the belt package, the treat blocks, the traction grooves, everything.......can not flex properly and therefore the tire performs poorly. overinflation will cause the center of the tread surface to wear almost twice as fast as the rest of the tire. and finally, the tires "footprint" is 1/2 the size that it should be, causing poor traction under all situations except for high speed hydroplanning.
44 psi: (__) 35 psi: (____)
the UTQG number, "400" is about as accurrate as the epa gas mileage sticker. its just a ball park figure..... means practically nothing in reality. I know, I was offered the job of managing that program in San Angelo by NHTSA back in 94, I turned the job down. It's an act of Congress that put it into play... its joke. the number comes from a treadwear test run for 8000 miles... the tire manuf's simply do a post cure on the tread surface to make it extra hard and jack up the numbers......................
hope this helps................

i was only gonna run the tires at 32 or 35 anyways. prob 35 in front and 32 in back seeing theres less weight back there. not sure if it will help or not2009 Honda Civic EX- the daily beater
