  • 1985 Firebird help

I have 2 firebirds...a 1989 Firebird 2.8L V6 5-speed, and a 1985 Firebird 305 V8 auto...now I love my 85, don't get me wrong, but I have a thing against automatics, so I am going to put the 1989 body onto the 1985 frame to convert the 85 from auto to std. My questions are....Is this possible without major modification, what will need to be changed, and how hard will it be???

What frame? They are both unibody cars, there is no conventional frame. You can swap the front and rear bumper covers and the front fenders and hood with no problem.
If you really want to make the V8 car a manual you need to replace the tranny and add a clutch pedal (and small brake pedal)flywheel and clutch, and get a manual center console. More info on tranny swaps in 3rd gens at www.thirdgen.org

I'm not sure I'm following what you want to do. Changing bodies will not change the transmission. You'll have an 85 car with an 89 body that's still an automatic. You'll still have one auto and one std car. To change to a manual transmission you need to swap the transmissions, not the bodies.

It would probably be your best bet to go to a junk yard and find an 85 manual transmission and all the related hardware you need.
