  • How diffcult is it to change a convertible top?

My stock black top one has spots all over it so it needs replacing. My car is white and when my car is repainted I'm going for the solid white look so I'm looking for a white top. I was wondering how hard is it to change the top itself? Also can anyone recommend a site that sells good quality tops? The prices the dealers are quoting me are outrageous to say the least.

    Thanks

I have scoured the internet several times, asked on several message boards and never found a real answer to that question. I'd love to see a 4th gen F-body convertible top replacement article at some point. My top is still in great shape, but maybe in a few years I will be the one to do it and document my steps. I'm sure Shoebox would post the info on his website for all to enjoy.

I was goint to do my own top this past winter no I have shoved it off till next winter. From what I have gathered its not terribly difficult assuming you have mechanical skills and the right tools. the top is stapled across the bows and screwed and glued along the back lower edge. The hard part is lining up the new one precisely when you go to fire new fastening staples and when you glue and fasten that back lower edge. The rest of it just involved screwing things down.
My top doesnt have any damage, but the stiches are busting loose. I found the top and window shipped for about $575.00 and he also provides GM replacement instructions for the top. Most shops want $1400.00 installed which is insane. I have researched it on the internet and it appears that almost all tops go on the same way. Definitely a long weekend job, but possible.
