  • Window rail broke, help identify part name/#

Can anyone name the part that holds the window and attaches it to the window rail, it seems on of the pins rusted and broke off. Do I need to replace the whole assembly??

That's the window track. I've seen them sell on Ebay for $15.00/set, but don't see any for sale right now. I have a spare one but the guide pin is a little loose and needs a weld.

You'll need to first drill out the 3 rivets that go through the glass. go to the dealer to order new plastic washer sets. Then go to a hardware store and get some stainless steel aircraft nuts/bolts to use instead of the rivets.

Next remove the power window motor so the mechanism can be moved by hand. It is under spring tension, so be careful and do it while the mechanism is in its "full up" position..

Remove the short horizontal track that is held to the inner door with 2 nuts and slide the guide from it. Now carefully manipulate the main track to slide the regulator guides from it.

Remove the broken track, install your new one and you are all set to put the window back in and adjust it all.

Be carefull, this is not a fun or easy job. I've done it a few times and have pictures. Check out this thread..

To drill out the window rivets you must first cut off the stems that are sticking out from them. I used a cutting disk in a dremel.

Next, use a small drill bit to put a pilot hole on the center of the now flat rivet stem.

Once you have a pilot hole, get a large bit and drill the rivet out.

Good luck finding a replacement and getting it installed!

Thanks for the great Info Trace, I new shoebox had these instructions I just wasn't sure what I need. I want to gather all the parts first then get the job done. It's a pain taking that door cover on and off.
From looking at it ,i would have to remove the window glass? Do you recommend finding the horizontal part that holds the window as well as the vertical track?
What size aircraf nuts did you subsitute the rivets with ?
Ill hunt for the sutff on ebay.
          thanks

Yes you remove the window glass. That is why you need to drill out the 3 rivets.

You will need to find the large horizontal track. That is the broken part in your pictures. The vertical track should be OK.

Take one of the drilled out rivets with you to the hardware store to match the diameter for the bolts/nuts. I don't remember exactly what size they were.
