  • NFB: New GTO in 2007 ?

So I was looking through the May issue of Motor Trend and they have a scoope on the Pontaic division. According to the them the Zeta Platform is in a full swing in Australia, with new replacements showing up as soon as next year. Including new models .
New camaro, and chevelle very likely. Brang new GTO official drwaing/rendering looks very cool, something the 'oldtimers' might agree on, they said will appear in 2007 as 2008 model, with the LS2 400hp.
Didn't GM announce the demise of Zeta platform just few weeks back.

Yeah it did have the look . . .

As for the Camaro, they would have to rebuilt the Canadian factory, there is no other way around it, they are obligated to build that car there, through a agreement they saigned years ago. I guess that would be a long shot.

That contract is supposed to be up in 2006 though, hence the rumors for a 2007 model.

Wasn't there a recent post on here that the Zeta platform was dead? I assume when they kill a platform, it is world wide.

Only North America Zeta. Which were supposed to build the Monaro/GTO and Camaro.

Since Australia wasn't doing the coupes down there, they were to be made here, they don't have anything ready yet.

Also a rumor going around that Sigma might end up doing a Camaro and GTO. The Caddies are the only ones using that right now.

Unfortunately that article is out of date because of GM's recent announcements. When that happens to someone like Motor Trend (it was strictly timing) they usually will correct it in a future issue or on their web site. Current "rumors" in the press are the next GTO will stay on the current platform. It's difficult for any of us to speculate accurately at this point, but it will become clearer in the next few months as the press gets the "real" story.

fortunatly or unfortunaly how ever you want to look at it GM has demolished that factory and 90 some percent of the workers are working in other factories in Quebec. The land is in a final deal for sale to another company and as soon as that goes through GM can build the camaro where ever they want as that factory will no longer exist, there by negating the contract with the Canadain auto union. The contract was also good till 2017. GM can not anounce a camaro or firebird till this plants sale is final or the contract can be re-enacted.

Exactly... or until the billions in interest free loans floated to GM by Canada are repaid (originally the loan was due in 2017).

                            Just to add a note....

I believe Zeta is effectively delayed...till when, who knows...

That said, just because Zeta is delayed/cancelled doesn't mean that some of the cars that were slated to go on it are dead. They may be moved to an as yet unspecified platform.

Tell you the truth...I doubt even GM has figured out what exactly they're going to do, so stay tuned...

One thing is for sure...The success of the new Mustang could not have gone unoticed.
