I have a squeek coming from somewhere at the arse end (the car that is )which is rythmic with the movement of the car.
It sounds like a colony of mice have taken residence in the rear axle, I have changed the pads all round and although I don't have any squeal shims they have been copper greased.
The noise does more or less dissapear under braking, so can this lack of squeal shims be making my car squeak so much?

Anti squeal shims or liquid dampener is a must on many of these cars. The harmonics that are caused by the pad vibrations can drive someone nuts. I prefer the paper composit shims, but in a pinch the liquid does make some difference. There could also be the issue of a slightly warped rotor or the rear calipers aren't releasing 100%.

Thanks for the reply, I will check the rear calipers.
I'm pretty sure the discs aren't warped, but perhaps the pins are dirty.
I have noticed that the stud holes in the discs are larger than the wheel studs, is that normal?

Yes it is. The wheel being bolted to the hub keeps anything from moving.
