  • Went to the track!

Well I decided to go to the track at Rockingham tonight. Ran the Z four times.
Best runs yet, i remembered to drop the tire pressure this time too! I did not however take my box and 12's out of the trunk. Do you guys think it would make that much of a difference, because of the weight?

Well I'll post the best run:
    60' : 2.092
    330: 5.760
    1/8: 8.704
    MPH:84.58
    1000:11.229
    1/4:13.368
    MPH:106.92

I'm happy, thats 4 tenths better than last years runs, without any changes except for the tire pressure! 20lbs seemed good. The weather was nice and cold tonight. Had some traction issues some of the runs. Hopefully I can get it into the 12s now.

    Nice numbers. Typically 100#s = .1 seconds.
LS15 Power! Another LSx engine coming soon.

You definitely are making the power to run a strong 12. I think with a little more practice on your short time and you will be there no doubt.

Before I go I ought to put the shift kit in, its a B&M, but still a shift kit the less. I might play around with trying to shift it all the way up. Last time I've tried doing that my times were worse. There was a 01 z there with mac mid length headers, and a full exhaust, shift kit, and a superchip only hitting 13.5s. He seemed mad when i told him only the little stuff i've done to mine. My b-day is coming up, maybe I can talk my dad into something, but i'm not sure what.

A higher stall speed converter and good traction should get you that 12...... An adjustable torque arm will help put the power to the ground as well. Those are where I would go next. Cold air and weight reduction could add up to your times.

Do you know the elevation of the track that you were running at? I remember an exchange of posts with someone from (I think it was) the Fort Bragg area, and the track was at a surprisingly high altitude for NC.

Also good to keep track of the weather conditions, if you can. Air temp, barometric pressure and humidity will help you compare the runs from different times at the track.

With that MPH, you should be able to get into the 12's, no problem.

Not to hijack the thread....but...what is a typical trap speed for a 12.XX run? Based on what you are saying mine should be in the 12s but I cannot drive My best trap was 108.XX.

Injuneer, The surprisingly high info from the ft bragg area, is when i got my car dyno'd. it said on one website that the elevation for Rockingham dragway is 350'. Weather last night i'd say was lower 60s. There is another track, in fayetteville near the airport, but from everyone i've talked to it is not maintaned very well and goes at an incline up the track.

106.92 mph trap speed does not indicate 349 rwhp.

Furthermore, I would love to see a dyno graph as to how a stock cam and heads LS1 produced more peak horsepower than torque.

Those dyno numbers can't be right... good runs though

Hotwhip mentioned in a previous thread that the track he runs at had a fairly high elevation. I assumed this was the reason for his low trap speed in comparison to his RWHP numbers.

Hotwhip, what is the name of the track you went to? What kind of LT's do you have?

Well according to IHRA, the track elevation is listed as 375 feet so that shouldn't affect his power at all. It is quite possible his numbers were SAE corrected a little generously.

That still doesn't explain more peak horsepower than torque...

Yeah - I have not seen a stock LS1 generate more HP than torque. The numbers seem high especially on a 98 with the mods he has - ported and polished throttle body and exhaust. The track numbers are good though!

Maybe the numbers are not corrected??

I know it doesn't make any sense, it doesn't make any sense to me either! When I can find someone with a scanner i'll scan them in.

I had this discussion with a member on LS1tech - I suspect there are dynos being run by guys who want to generate numbers to help with their business. The car owner is not even aware of it and is thrilled with the numbers. I had several guys raise a "BS flag" on my numbers. I told them I do not know what to tell you - I was there - why would I inflate the numbers?? These guys claimed it is almost impossible to believe an LS1 with only cat back and intake hit over 325. Maybe that is the case and my numbers were inflated by the dyno operator. Dyno numbers are only helpful to "dial in" your car anyway. That is why I will go back to the same dyno when I am ready to tune after the header and cam install.
