When I had my trans rebuild, I was told by the junk yard that 95 would only work in a 95 . No other trans would work. I beleive him because he had 93, 94, and 96 Z28 trans. So if they would work I'm sure he would have sold one to me. But you can check with GM they would be the go to person. But if it will work I have a rebuild trans for sale with a stock torque and a stock both are new.

Comparing the two side by side...The 4x4 bell housing is wider and the tail shaft is shorter. I'm guessing no.

You will have to use a 4L60E out of a 2 wheel drive vehicle.

I go shopping there regulary.I just bought a rebuilt 4x4 4L60E with a Stage 2 Transgo shift kit, billet 2nd and 4th servos, and LS1 300mm converter for $380. Put it in my 98 Tahoe and shifts great.

[QUOTE=CamaromanZ28]The tranny is out of a 98 s 10 4x4 the guys says it is a 4l60e tranny. And he has a 95 4l60e tranny. I have a 94 z28 with a 4l60e tranny. Will the bolt pattern be different in it . Will anything have to be changed . I guy at auto zone said that the 4l60e 4x4 wsould work just make sure my yok would fit . and that i need to change the tail peice ... correct ?

A 4x4 4L60E will NOT be a direct bolt in to a 2 wheel drive. It is true that the slip yokes are different on a 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive. This is only because on a 4x4 the slip yoke slides into the back of the transfer case and on a 2 wheel drive the slip yoke obviously slides into the the back of the transmission itself. But, that is the least of your worries.
On a 4x4 4L60E, the case is designed in such a way that it accepts only the 4x4 extension housing which in turn bolts to the transfer case adapter housing. The output shaft's are also diiferent lengths between the 4 wheel drive and 2 wheel drive 4L60E. So as you can see alot would have to be swapped in order to use a 4x4 4L60E in a 2 wheel drive car.

But, the 94-97 trannies are interchangeable since they are all 4L60E's. Was there a price difference for the 95?Rob B 95Z A4 Tech Page (Part numbers / locations, how to's, schematics, DTC's...)
