Trans ? once agian

one of my friends says that the 4l60e of a 4x4 s 20 95n98 wont work on my car. But i was told that they are universail . Is that true .. It came off a 4.3 liter . And will the bolt pattern line up right ? I guy i talk to also at auto zone said that it will fit up but make sure my yok works ? Sounds right anyone
