  • Headers for LS1

    Hello everyone!
Just wondering if anyone knows of some good headers for LS1 F-Bodies that retain the stock cats, etc. I want to remain emissions legal. I have a cat-back Flowmaster setup already. Of particular interest to me would be models which are true bolt-ons. I saw a set (can't remember which brand) in an install article in GM High-Tech Performance that looked good, but they required cutting and/or re-bending the cat on one side of the y-pipe to match the new header. I would like to be able to bolt them on w/o having to cart the car to a muffler shop 1/2 way thru to get the y-pipe bent.

    Thank you much!

I can't find much on this. JBA is the only MFG I can find that makes them.

You don't need to keep the stock cats to remain emissions legal... get some high-flow cats, remain legal, and don't rob yourself of HP.

Its a fine line between emissions "legal" and not legal. Federal law prohibits:

          1. Changing the stock cats before they are out of emissions warranty, or unless they are proven defective

          2. Relocating the stock cats... I believe the LS1 cat locations make this a lot easier to meet than the LT1 dual-cat cars.

          3. Changing the number of cats, but of course this is not an issue.

How this Federal law is used and enforced by the States varies quite a bit, from the hardline approach of states like CA and NJ, to the "who cares" approach in states like FL.
