Most LT1 starters (even AC-Delco) are rebuilt. You might consider an LT4 starter. It is a direct replacement, a little smaller and more powerful (plus it is new-not reman). GM PART # 10455709 ~$151 wholesale.

        sup

im not positive but almost sure that u can get a starter from a 99 yukon with a 350 vortec. it should be a direct bolt in. the starter is the GM mini starter with gear reduction.

Im not sure what a lt4 starter looks like or if its gear reducted. But i looked into this when my starter gave me probs, it hasnt acted up since so i havnt changed it.. Let me know if it works.

Could also go with a high-torque starter from Powermaster. My Jeep used to eat up starters every year, this one just keeps going. Sounds like a semi starting up too

GM parts direct changes a ridiculus shipping and handeling fee for each part in an order. I use Dal Salbaugh at Van Deere Olds in Akron Ohio for great prices and regular UPS rates for shipping. Call him at: 877-448-5451

i've used both Dal and Jason and both are great. I primarily deal with Jason.... when the smoke clears, Jason is a hair cheaper as there are no additional handling fees added along with shipping.

A managed to kill two "stock" LT1 starters.... probably with header heat. About 4 years ago, I picked up a CVR Pro-Torque starter at JEG's for $150. Gear reduction, slightly lighter than stock, beefy Nippondenso motor, and a mounting system that allows it to be rotated into several different positions to clear headers and minimize heat exposure. I think it was a great deal.

I don't see the CVR brand in the JEG's catalog any more, but they appear to be selling the exact same starter, with their own brand on it, for $139. Part # 555-10001

The LT4 appears to be very popular, although I did see someone asking if it was OK that the starter did not fill the opening in the LT1 dust shield, which apparently is larger, because the LT4 is smaller. I don't know how the JEG's starter would look with the dust shield in place, because I don't have a stock tranny and there is no dust shield on the JW UltraBell.
