They do help but don't count on one to keep you out of all tickets, especially if there is no traffic around. Yes - mine's directly wired to the car so it powers up when I start the car and shuts down when turn the car off. It has saved me many times!

The first time I ever worked in the US I bought one. They saved me many times. Not allowed to have one in Canada but when I'm on the road in the States it's always on (except where prohibited). It's several years old but still seems to work good.
But as 94 formula said it doesn't work in all the situations. Recently in Tennessee a State Trooper got me going 13 over the limit. After checking me out on the computer he sent me down the road with a warning but no ticket.
