  • Anyone else wanna come get a timeslip?

I've owned my car for over a year, and have yet to hit up a track. A timeslip is a must now. Some weekend in May, me and a couple buddies of mine are going to the track. I was thinking about Route 66 because it's close, but then again I haven't been to any other tracks, so I really don't even know what else there is. If anyone around Chicago or the area is willing to meet up some weekend in May with me and my friends to hit up a track, let me know so we can figure out what would be the best for all of us. Also, if anyone else has a good track recomendation, let me know, as long as it isn't too far from me. I'd say anything around a 100 mile radius from Chicago would be reasonable.

Reply or send a PM if anyone is interested

TraceZ~Great Lakes wouldn't be a problem for me.

Blevyou Know~ I have no idea if there are any tracks between Chicago and Bloomington. If Bloomington is where I think it is (not the best with some of dem towns) I believe Route 66 would be about somewhere in between.

Keep in mind though, that whatever is chosen, will hopefully be a good compromise for everyone

I just looked at Great Lakes' website. I only came across one weekend day in May that has open racing, and it's on Sunday the 22nd from 9 am to 5 pm. If anyone else has any more ideas, keep em' coming.

There's Byron which is about an hour 1/2 straight west of Chicago (the lake). It's not big & fancy like Rt66, it is more like GLD, but they prep the track better and the times are as much as .3 faster there. GLD is a sewer, but it's the one that I usually went to (I say "went" cause it's been 2 years for me since I raced the car) I know Rt66 is NHRA and will tech your car real good, GLD is IHRA, not sure if Byron is IHRA too, but I think so. As you know you can go 11.5 at an IHRA track w/o a roll bar - it's 12.0 at an NHRA track unless you drive a ragtop.

I heard Byron is faster cuz it is a tiny bit down hill, i dont know if that is true but i have heard that from a few different people.

I have to talk to my buddy tonight and see what day we can come up with. We're always both working, and next month is a hectic one for us both. We are for sure going to go next month though. When we decide tonight on the best day, I'll make sure to post it.

Okay, so my buddy and I have decided to run our cars at Route 41 Dragway in Morocco, Indiana. We're going here because my buddy's dad live in downstate IL, and he wants to meet up with us and run his el camino. We plan on going sunday May 29th, times are from 8-4, and the cost is $20. Information on Route 41 can be found here .

Sometime in June though, probably mid-month, we want to go to another track as well. Byron Dragway in Rockford, IL is more likely than not going to be where we will go at this time. Following that, we want to go to Great Lakes Dragway in Union Grove, WI sometime in early July.

Also, there will be a custom car show at Volo in Volo, IL on July 3rd that we plan on going to. If you don't know what Volo is, it's basically one of the best car show/museum type place that you can ever go to. They have everything from celebrities cars, to old cars, to muscle cars, to film cars (knight rider, batmobile, general lee, etc....) that were actually used in the movies. They also have walls full of die cast cars, so hopefully I can actually find a couple nice 1:16 size f-bodies there.

Anyone has any ?'s or is interested, shout a pm or reply
