Sure, theres going to be a marginal difference, but I dont think I would do the job twice just so I could drive around with 3.08's for a few months. Youve got to buy the install kit twice and then youve got at least three to four hours in labor....wouldnt be worth it to me. I would wait to do the 3:73's.....96 WS6 Formula: Ram Air, 383 Stroker, Ported LT4 Heads and Manifold, 1.6 Crane Rollers, 58MM T.B., AS&M Headers, Borla Exhaust, Meziere Elec. What does "changing the whole 3rd member" mean? If you mean the whole housing, the s-10 housing is not the same........it wont just bolt in.
If you mean just swapping the carriers........You cant just slam another carrier in the f- body housing.....You still need to change the bearings on the carrier and the pinion, and also the races in the housing. Most importantly you need to reshim the pinion and the carrier for the proper backlash and pattern. You will also need a new crush collar and pinion nut to set the pre-load on the pinion. Swapping gears is technical job and can be screwed up pretty easily with just a slight wrong move.....96 WS6 Formula: Ram Air, 383 Stroker, Ported LT4 Heads and Manifold, 1.6 Crane Rollers, 58MM T.B., AS&M Headers, Borla Exhaust, Meziere Elec.
