  • How to protect wheels from theives??....

    Hey everyone,
I am having a set of aftermarket wheels put on my car tomorrow. What is the best way to protect them from getting stolen. I am going to get a set of lug locks, but is there anything else?

Definitely get the full set of locking lugs. Also, I always park with my front wheels fully locked either left or right. My theory is it makes it impossible to take the wheels off the front, and why steal only the back ones?

Two ways.....The first is to own such a crappy set that nobody wants them.

Seriously, get a set of high quality locks. McGaurd or Gorilla comes to mind. They replace one lug nut on each wheel with a special lug nut that requires a key in order to remove it.

if a thief want them he will get them. i used to work at a ford dealership and they got stolen off the lot all of the time. but the car always got messed up, i dont even use locks, if a thief wants then, take em, dont mess up my car in the process~gunter

I don't use one locking lug per wheel, ALL of my lugs are keyed. They're tuner style, and unless the guy has the key they can't come off. The outside is completely round so of that "hammer on a socket" crap to get my wheels off.

actually, there is a special socket made to take the locking lugs off. I use the socket all the time to get wheels off when a customer loses the key. If I were a thief and wanted to steal your wheels, id have them off just as fast as if it were a regular lug.

you said they were round with no edges, thats what this socket is designed to take off. Its round and tapered, it doesn't lock onto any edges; its just friction that gives it its bite. Unless, you've got something new - I think I could get em off. If my socket doesnt work, I've got my two friends - Oxy and Acetylene.

Any wheels can be stolen, it's just making it harder than the next guy that's the key. Your socket might work, if you can get to them in the first place. I know the torch won't, you'd melt the aluminum rim before the lugs ever thought about coming off. Dogs, nosy neighbors, cops nextdoor, inaccessible front wheels, and a .40 caliber will keep most folks away from my wheels. If they're stupid enough to try it, then I hope they have a burial plot picked out cause they're gonna need it
