Nah..... you need an LC2. That's the Turbo 3.8 from the GN.

Your 84 weighs about 3170 and has
        horsepower
        110 hp @ 3800 rpm

        Torque
        190 ft-lbs @ 1600 rpm

I'd definatly go with the GN motor, GN's are slightly modified regals and they happen to be my favorite car.

They were they fastest americain production car in 1987 and could run a 1/4mile
under 14 seconds easy. Here are the specs of an 87
        Horsepower
        245 hp @ 4400 rpm

        Torque
        335 ft-lbs @ 2000 rpm

Those numbers are under rated, gm did not want to write on paper that they out did their flagship sports car (corvette) with a modified grocery getter

BTW. you'd want the drivtrain out of an 86-87GN they were intercooled and were much better then previous years.

          Close. The 87 was 355 lb./ft. torque @2000rpm. Even that is under-rated.

Another vote for the GN motor . Def. go for the 86-87 intercooled motor. They are identical, only different on the advertised specs. Look on eBay, I've seen some on there for sale. Make sure you get the matching TH200-4R or get a 700-R4 and the PCM also. Have fun

There are some rebuilt GN and GNX turbo's for sale relatively cheap here

Not sure how reliable or effective a rebuilt turbo is but maybe they aren't bad. Hope this helps.
Red 95 Trans Am: M6, Moroso CAI, Magnaflow, Spohn sway bars, back to life as of 2/15/10!!!
            SOLD- Kinda miss it
94 Del Sol VTEC: 27 city/ 33 highway, knee deep in slowness
            SOLD- Good riddance!
2006 Ford Fusion: 2.3, 5 speed, could run 15lbs of boost with a 150 shot and it'd still be slow

I'd be interested to see if it an actual GNX rebuilt to factory spec (including ceramic impeller) or just a turbo off a GNX that's been rebuilt. The difference is that the latter is identical to a GN turbo, as most shops (if not all of them) will not replace the ceramic impeller with another ceramic one.

That is not entirely accurate. With the turbo shield removed, the GNX housing has a cast in contaminant trap between the oil supply line and the impeller that is not present on the standard garrett housing used for regular GNs. This also makes the turbo shield a unique size that is slightly wider than the standard cover. For what it's worth, the ceramic impeller did little for performance. For more performance a larger turbo is required.

Ya know, I remember hearing something about that, but never actually seen it before. Thanks for reminding me Joe .

I would't put a stick trans. on it. You'll lose your boost on every shift. Is your stock tranny a 3-spd. or 4-spd. auto? I would check out G-Body Parts for any and all parts you're looking for. Brian has been very good to me, they've got pretty good prices and their stuff arrives in pretty good to new condition.
