  • finally, the car is complete today

long story short I want my car perfect. Have had it for a year now and not even 2 weeks after I got it some stooge opened her door into my quarter panel. No dent, but chipped down to metal. Who ever owned the car before me was obviously not an f-body enthusiest. Minor scratches here and there and bad touch up paint work and I think I put the first coats of anything on the car. But it still looked good. But I need better lol, so she is finally done paint today....same color of course, pitch black, but with the added attitude of the painted 2002 ZL-1 stripe on the hood and rear of the car. God she is gonna look goooooooooood, can't wait to re-coat her up with some good ole' zaino. Will post pictures later today after I get all her ss badging back on.

    One happy MO-Fo

I'd be slightly leary of that. A quality paintjob goes for 2-3,000 from my experience. I recently paid $300 to have my driver's door painted off the car. Getting my hood painted off the car will easily cost another $300. Those prices are with very little prep work and I did all the actual "work" myself.

Did they remove the spoiler, grill insert and mirrors? Did they shim the bumper covers away from the body at the gaps so the new paint didnt bridge them? Did they remove the front inner wheel wells? Did they remove the headlights, tail lights, fog lights, turn signals and rear markers? Did they mask the door gaps so overspray didnt get inside the jambs all the way around? Did they strip the bumper covers before repainting them so the new paint does not spiderweb?

I hope they did it right.

Have any of you guys ever got a quote to do just the nose? Or maybe just the bumper? I have always wondered how much it would cost me but never looked into it. Would I have to take those pieces off the car?

I've gotten quotes due to the fact that my front bumper cover, hood, and drivers side fender are all primered for now. My quotes have ranged from $600-$750 for everything. The guy said and average price is around $200-$250 per panel. You could take it off yourself, but if you don't want to, they can do it all at the paint shop.

Congrats on the paint job....I can't wait 'til my whole car gets the paint job of my dreams. That white scoop and stripe on an all black car must look pretty hot, gotta post some pics when she returns

Awsome! I didnt mean to sound negative, sorry. I'm glad to hear it was done properly. I'd hate to see a nice F-body get shoddy work done to it.

A complete quality paintjob price can vary alot. Anywhere from 1,250 to 2,000 on the high side for a f-body. I personally would not pay over $1,500 for a complete slick paint job door jambs and under hood and all.

Sounds like it is going to look pretty nice with the stripes.

For a good paint job, they mostly take tha car apart, however a lot of short cuts can be taken when you are doing same color.

I bought a can of paint and painted the front to hide where the lisence plate was and I really just painted the area between the fog lights but below the top part that blends to the hood. I shot the color then the clear, thenwet sanded & buffed it out and it looks good. Only prob is that the enamel I used isn't as durable than urethane, but I am not equipped to spray urethane at home. So if I get a bunch of juicy insects on there, I got to get it off soon and even that zaino hasn't helped against the bugs. Almost time for another touch-up job - I figure every 5 years it will need it.
