              Wow......an absolutely fabulous car!

Now if you want to hear a true story about the one that got away , you have to hear this one.

Back in the early 80's my brother had purchased this fairly ratty looking 71 Corvette. It had the typical mods of the day which included flared fenders and the three tail light per side conversion. It also had a big block (non original) and a four speed. It was a "project car" for all practical purposes and needed a lot of work. Anyways after he bought the thing he only did a little work to it and eventually sold it for some paltry sum of money because he was moving from Michigan to Florida and didn't wan't to worry about getting the car down there.

Now fast forward to 1990.........I come home from work one day and pick up the latest copy of one of the Corvette magazines I subscribed to and start reading it. There is a story in this magazine about a fellow that always wanted an LS6 Corvette. He had just bought an original motor from the original owner of one of these rare beasts. The fellow had removed the motor from the car when it was new and replaced it with an iron big block and then stored the original motor in his basement. Eventually he sold the car but kept the motor........you can see where this is headed can't you?

Well after this fellow purchased the motor he was determined to track down and find the car that the motor came out of. Using the information from the original owner he began this huge paper chase that involved getting in touch with a number of DMVs from various states but he eventually found the car. It was in the hands of the sixth owner in Sturgis Michigan.......the guy that my brother had sold the car too! None of the owners had been aware of the rarity of that car nor its current value. But when I checked back then it was worth something like $350,000 in restored condition!!!!!!!!!! The new owner had the names of every owner......including my brothers.......and intended to do a full restoration of the car. Pictures of the "ratty" car were in the magazine as well as the names of all the owners up to that point. And guess what.....my brother never knew about the article because he was the only person the new owner wasn't able to find and talk to personally because he had moved to Florida. Well you can imagine my brothers reaction when I called him and told him about the article and the car. He is still sick about it to this day but takes it all with a grain of salt whever I bring it up.

Did anyone notice the gaping hole in the driver's side exhaust where it joins the header?

I'm not sure that is a hole.. Could just be a dark stain.

If you look at the under car photo taken from the front of the car, it appears to be an oil drip from changing the filter, it goes up and around the pipe on the inside by the filter.
