  • Went to the track.......

Went to the track for the first time after my gears, CAI install. I also added new rims and tires, which replaced the old 16in non-z rated tires.

    I ran a 14.225 at 101.4

    60ft time was 2.3

It was about to rain and had drizzled VERY slightly and the car did not hook well. It was also pretty cool out as well, about 45 degrees.

Should I be freaked out?! I was thinking that I would run in the high 13's for sure.

Right now I might be panicking but I am so dissapointed.

I think the trap speed is about right. Your problem is in the launch - your 60 ft time is a little soft - should be closer to 2.0. Work on the launch and maybe get some drag radials and you're in the 13s

With better track and weather conditions, and work on your launch, you should have no problem seeing 13's.

Yeah with those mods you shouldnt have much of a problem. Bone stock my car went 13.9, with an exaust and cai it went 13.7@102 if that helps you any. And last night 13.5@104.

The speed is consistant with 13.8 ish.... at least with better traction, that is where you'll be at. Take 2 tenths from your 60' time that you would see from better grip and you're right there.

            related

The first time i took my 96ss to the track I was nervous and left at to high of an rpm and spun about a car lenght and did manage a 13.8.I have 3.42 gears a t56 six speed mac headers and off road pipes and cat back with a K&N filter in the slp ram air and an airfoil. That same night a little more relaxed i lauched around 2800 rpms and managed a 13.4 my 60 foot times still weren't the greatest but as they were saying in the other posts better launches definetly improve your et.The last time i went i ran a 13.5 pass.I let my air out of the rear tires and left at the same rpm.It grabbed so much it fell on its face.Should haved increased my rpms. But traction and a nice lauch makes all the difference.Good luck Broke my ring gear and have never been back to the track.

Thanks guys. I am so upset that I can't get any good weather around here that I just said screw it went to the track anyway. Problable should have waited.

Also, the track is not known in the area as the best around. On my second run the back end was bouncing all over the place and the tires broke loose in 2nd and 3rd. I think the poor times are a mix of poor weather, cool track, and poor track surface.

I need to head to Norwalk to get some real times.

Get some Nitto NT555R's Drag Radials. If it is the stock suspension, you might want to work on getting LCA's, Torque Arm, shocks & springs. With that you should be able to cut 2.0x at the 60 foot mark. 3 tenths there alone.

Practice and more practice. You could drop the air to +/- 26psi in the rear tires (street tires that is) and see if that helps you hook. At least it's fun trying

I'm getting some LCA relocation brackets and going back to improve my 13.8

Last time I went to the track I dropped my psi down 20 and got a lot better traction, which would also depend on the tires your using if it will be able to go that low in pressure without damaging the tire. Also something mentioned to me a long time ago by someone on the board, is try to run behind some one with drag radials that way you will get a little better traction with fresh rubber being laid down.
