  • Happer then a kid on Christmas

I have been trying to find a random missfire on my 94 formula for the last 2-3 months and it has been a pain in the butt.

Changed the spark plugs, plug wires, opti and water pump because I was in there. I had the compression in the cylinders checked out and he said it was one of the best ones hes tested, all 8 cylinders within 5psi of each other and they were between 160-170psi (cant remember exact spread but were in there).

Car still had a ruff idle and the car had a odd vibration. I took it to another shop to remove the injectors and get them tested and cleaned. Called today and was told the car was better with the cleaned injectors and this mechanic informed me that I had a aftermarket cam in it.

I find it a little odd because the car when I bought it still had the original plug wires in it and stuff but if it's true that kicks major butt. I was wondering if there is a way to check eather if I have a cam in it and/or what cam I do have in it w/o taking it out.

I plan on doing intake and exhaust later and was going to get a mail order tune but now I think it is worth a dyno tune because I may not know what I have under my hood.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

How did the mechanic verify it had a "aftermarket" cam in it? Did he use a dial indicator to measure the cam lift? Does the car have a lope at idle?

No way to be 100% positive without using a dial indicator with a modified hydraulic lifter or a solid lifter.

I picked up my car last night and wow it feels like a new car, pressing the peddle 1/2 way down the tires screach and my car's back end kicks out. The mechanic thought I have a non stock cam in it because there is a slight vibration or rockeing when the car is in idle and how my car excelerates.

Hes worked on alot of LT1 Camaro's and Trans Ams but the I guess the easiest way to find out is to actuly get it dyno's and see how the numbers lined up if I want to be shure. Thanks.

The last thing I had done was the injectors, taken out sent out and tested and rebuilt. 4 had some stuff slightly wrong with it I was like...dam. He only charged me 150 bucks in labour ontop of what the shop charged him to test all the injectors so its not to bad.

I do have a new problem though

Now if I let my car sit for like over a hour and a half it dosnt want to turn over right away. I had the battery replaced last fall and it didn't do that b4 I went to the shop. If I turn off the car and turn it back on right away, no problem. If the problem sticks around they will hook there scanners up because it only slightly heasitated when I had the mechanic look at it.

He told me to just take it out on the highway and push her because there may be some sort of solution left in the injectors that may be causeing it but they cant realy beshure. Bugs me because there seams to always be something :P All in all these cars are worth it, Drive it once and I always have a grin on my face from it
