  • LLLLLoooooong Drive Today

It's been a great summer in Minneapolis for me... but today I get to head back to Michigan.

Mapquest says 580 miles, and about 9.5 hours until Holland, MI.

I always love the road trips

My worst and best was Olympia, WA to Rifle, CO about 1,196 miles in 16 hours by myself. I left at 6:00am with no sleep after finishing my R/A duties at the university, and arrived at 11:00pm ish with losing an hour for the time change, crashed at my brother's place and left for Denver the next morning. The canyons from Provo to Green River always slowed down the average speed...Oh well! I went to school in WA so I made that trip many times. However, I usually crashed in a hotel at least one night at the midpoint. Anyhow, that was a miserable trip, and I started to see pink elephants on the road near Grand Junction, CO. It was fun to make it though. Dang...that was over 10 years ago! Anyway, those long trips in the western US are a lot of fun in a fast car A few years ago, on the Montana route between WA and CO, a F.O.R.D. T-bird tried to keep up with the mighty T/A on a stretch of road outside of Bozeman, MT. Well, it was fun to watch especially as we went through a dip/indentation in the road at over 100mph. The T/A went through with flying colors. Well, the T-bird didn't, as I saw numerous sparks under the front of his car. Kinda fun! ...didn't see him again after that
