  • Just replaced my opti and have ? about ventilation

    Hi Gang,
I just replaced the optispark on my 96 T/A and went to check the ventilation system. I checked for a vacuum at the nipple that goes into the air intake duct. I didn't notice any vacuum there. I checked the hoses and they are clear. There is a strong suction on the manifold side of the line filter, but only a small vacuum on the distributor side of the filter. I know the filter has a small diameter orafice in it so it should restrict the the air flow some but by how much? Should you notice a vacuum at the nipple on the air intake duct? I blew through the filter and it does have restriction. How much restriction is considered normal?

Its working exactly the way its supposed to. The intake manifold connection supplies the vacuum. That vacuum pulls filtered, MAF measured air out of the throttle body bellows/blue plastic elbow, and the air flows through the Opti, removing the ozone generated by the high voltage discharge, and any moisture.

There is very little vacuum in front of the throttle body, so you will never be able to feel any significant suction at that point.
