  • NFB - bad news for me

The day my son is born I get a phone call as I'm standing in the recovery room.

It is the owner of the contracting company I work for. He tells me that the state of Wisconsin had to cut a contractor from the budget next fiscal year and as of June 30 I am no longer working there.

    Nice.

So, I find out now that I have 2 months of bench time accrued at full pay. That means I have from now untill early September to find new work before I begin to feel the pinch financially. I can think of worse things than a month off paid in July. I'm sure it will all work out ok but it still sucks because I love my job and will miss it dearly.

BTW... June 30 is my birthday. So I get called on my newborn son's birthday to tell me that my last day is on my birthday. What kind of bad luck is that, anyways?

The Wolfman doesn't lie, government work in my opinion is the best work there is It's all in how you word your resume and it sounds like the Wolfman is already on top of that. Good luck bro and congrats again on the new little one

Sorry to hear about that TraceZ. Wolfman is right though! I think Wolfie's benefits if very simular to mine.

I work for the state of West Virginia. I am in charge of internet classroom teaching for our Campus and I also produce, edit, make tv commercials.

Since I have been doing this for 5 years now I get 18 Vacation days and 21 sick days a year. This doesn't count Holidays like labor, memorial, and thanskgiving, and so.

You'll have a lot more time to spend with your family and do the things you want.

          Plus good medical coverage also!

Hey Wolfman, if you know of anything in South Alabama or Northwest Florida, give me a shout. I have an impending career change and I'd love to have a government job. Heck, while your at it, hook everybody up with one!

well.... that depends on you you look at it. Perhaps this is a forced change of environment that leads to growth and greener pastures. I think your luck is pretty good. Your son is healthy, you'll be able to get into a new job and you have advance notice. Things could be much worse, just keep your chin up.

I'll be joining you soon, Ken. I just got my associates and I've been testing at police departments like mad. I can't wait. Full health, dental, life, and they even pay for my tuition (in case I want to go for my bachelors or masters). Can't go wrong with working for the Government of the United States of America.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.

I've found out that I have 8 weeks of fully paid bench time accrued. So, my paychecks won't stop until Sept 15. That gives me quite a while to look for a new job!
