  • Got insulted today

Most of you probably know that I've been looking for a TA So today I see a 99 WS-6 at a local dealership for 15,000 and it's only got 30k miles on it. So I call about and ask about trade in value on my car. I told the dealer the truth, my car is in showroom condition and I have the all the records on it for the last five years and it only has 45k on it. He offers me 3,000 for my car 3,000 and wouldn't even go down on the 99. Man I'm getting sick of shopping

Go to kbb.com, edmunds.com and nadaguides.com and check the trade in values. That does seem a little low, but the used car market is flooded now. You could always sell it outright.

I always sell my used cars outright. Trading in a car is a joke unless you are friends with the dealer and he gives you a decent deal.

That sux, Bro. Have you checked blue book value for your car? I would do a search for the black book value online. Dealers use the black book to get fair market value for trade-ins. If you can get that, I would try to get them to give you maybe...start at about a grand above blackbook citing the low miles and good condition and go down from there. Unfortunately the trade-in value for V6 F-bods is not very high. Just be patient and shop around. Go in there with a figure that you are willing to take for your car, and be realistic about it...and have a figure that you are willing to pay for the newer one. The key is to be realistic, but firm. Don't be afraid to walk out of the office if they won't deal with you. Another good thing to try is to get the manager to show you what they paid for the car you want to buy. Then offer him $1,000 over his cost, and pay the TT&L. This was the minimum that the dealership I sold for would take for a used car. If he wants to sell the car bad enough, he will show you his cards and take a deal. This is what my experience selling used cars for a Chevy dealer taught me. I hope it helps. Keep us posted.

I hear ya... I sell mine outright also. I did get a good trade in deal on my 1998 intrigue when I bought my 2004 Impala LS. They gave me what the actual trade in value was, and I already had the deal made on the Impala.

trade in? Not too bad. Your car is a v6 right? No doubt you could get more selling outright, but that's always the case. A 97 v6 firebird... Even private seller I wouldn't expect to pay more than 5000. And that dealer has to make a profit ya know?

The last time I did it was in 1986. I walked in and said we can do this 2 ways, blue book to blue book or black book to black book. I don't care. But we are not doing it your car at blue book and mine at black book. You do it, I walk. They didn't. I bought the car without haggling.
