  • audio question...

ok been looking to get rid of my stock delco stereo. was looking online and am starting to fancy the 1.5 din dashspace alpine and pioneer decks... do the 94 z28's have the 1.5 din dash space? the sites i have been going to say that they are custom fits for gm and chrysler vehicles, are the wiring harnesses the same as well? has anyone installed one of these decks whether it be alpine or pioneer, and how do they perform? any feedback or suggestions on other 1.5 din dash decks would be appreciated thanks guys!

ok read the post, however im still left with the same question that the other guy posted, in the trans am the din spot is more rectangular than the camaro which is a little more angled to the right... will i have to fill that small spot on the right of the din where it is curved or..? thanks

There isn't an adapter bracket to mount a 1.5 DIN in a Camaro. There is a universal one shown in the other thread. I tried it and I could not get the Camaro trim plate over it. 1 minute of filing on 1 corner of either the trim plate or the mounting adapter would have fixed that. However it left a gap on both sides of the radio. A pretty good size gap on the right. I'm not sure how to fill it. I thought about gluing a piece of plastic on to it.

I have a better idea though. I'm pretty sure you can get a 1 din adapter and cut the hole out for a 1.5 DIN radio and it will fit. You'll have to get the hole in exactly the right spot though. I would cut it small and use a file to enlarge it putting it in and it of the car many times till you get it right but I think it can be done.

The problem with that 1.5 DIN universal adapter is the radio isn't made to mount flush like the Camaro one. It sticks out the front about 1/2". The part that sticks out is what hit the Camaro trim plate. Using a Camaro specific adapter and cutting it to fit would eliminate that.

There is a good chance I'm going to order something else from www.buy.com again shortly. If I do, I'm going to get another Camaro specific adapter and try and cut it to work. The adapters are only $5.99 from them so I don't care if I screw it up. I've got a bunch of other stuff going on right now so it may be a month or two before I get to it.

Does that better answer your question?
