  • 3.4 with problems

I have a 94 firebird with a 3.4... only had it a few months and it started giving me trouble, at first sometimes when i try to start it, it starts for a split second and dies.. but after a little while would crank and run and start fine for days or weeks then do it again...I can hear the fuel pump kick on and had the fuel pressure check and was told it was fine. The first time i put it in the shop they cleaned out the intake and throttle boddy and change the fuel filter. That didn't sound like that was the problem to me but it was running right so I took it anyway. Drove it about a month and it started the same thing again. It turns over runs for a split second and dies... Just to be safe i checked the tb and intake and fuel filter, all clear. Then I put it back in the shop and they said it might be the ecu or the ignition switch but can't promise that will fix it then quoted me an outrageous price.. so any ideas would be greatly appreciated

well its done it when its cold and after bein ran so i'm thinking heat isn't an issue... its been in the shop twice and i've had a few friends that are mechanics look at it and it has everyone scratchin their heads and only guessin at what it could be... no one seems very sure and im afraid i'm going to end up just replacing parts until its figured out

Ok, put the car in the shop to have the computer checked again since I still couldn't get it to show anything on my handheld scanner. This is the 2nd shop thats told me the computer is fine. The first shop also changed the fuel filter and cleaned out the intake and tb as i stated in my first thread and I changed the plugs and wires.. Since then I replaced both crank position sensors at the suggestion of a few people and that wasn't the problem. It's starting to get costly and I'm getting no where. Seems that there aren't very many people/shops around here that know much about the 3.4's. If anybody has had a similar problem or have any idea of a possible fix I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

You might want to read thru the problems TODD 2000 V6 CAMARO had. Turned out it was the ignition module/coil packs. See if his symptoms were similar to yours. I know there are some differences between the 3.4L and the 3.8L, but the ignition design is similar.
