I can get a 6AL for $230+ (tax included) and I was wondering is this thing worth the money? I know on older vehicles these MSD boxes can make a difference but how about on a 1995 Z28?
I can't find the old thread but I asked that here before. The consensus was that the electronics on the LT1 are pretty efficient and it was doubtful that it would help.
I would say don't do it....I had a 6A box in mine and I smoked a new opti in about 35-40K miles.....think of it.....4 sparks for normally every 1, that equals 4 times the wear on the electrical contacts in the cap/rotor. The rotor and cap contacts were basically carbon powder when I took it apart......never again.
Well, leave it to me to be the dissenting voice of opinion. Yes the factory electronics are good. However, not great. In my case, I picked up about 2 mpg cruising on the highway.

Change your name to Beaver. Then instead of "leave it to me" it would be "leave it to Beaver". Boy that dates me.
2002 Electron Blue Vette, 1SC, FE3/Z51, G92 3.15 gears, 308.9 RWHP 321.7 RWTQ (before any mods), SLP headers, Z06 exhaust, MSD Ignition Wires, AC Delco Iridium Spark Plugs, 160 t-stat, lots of ECM tuning

Let me say that after the 6A install, the car ran great and made the dyno graphs look smoother than glass.....but IMHO, it will eventually take its toll on the high voltage side of things.
Right now I'm looking to get the car repainted so right now I have a few bolts ons on the car. Things like CAI, catback exhaust, and headers are on the way. Long term goal is that I do plan on running nitrous after I finish my bolt ons so that is why I was thinking of about getting a control box now.
I now have a different question sort of. How does the brand Mallory compare to MSD? I have heard great things about both but it seems through Mallory you get a little more bang for your buck. This is the Mallory unit I'm currently looking at.
