  • max hp?

Ok guys, I have a friendly bet going on with a friend. He claims that a cobra mustangs bottom end can hold 1,000 hp! lol I told him that an ls1 bottom end could hold more than a mustangs any day. So what I need to know is what is the max hp you have ever seen or heard of an ls1 makeing on a completely stock bottom end? And if all possible I need proof! It doesn't matter if it is N/A or not as long as it has the stock bottom end!

Well the 4 valve Cobra cars have completely different rotating assemblies than their other modular siblings in other Ford vehicles. The have a forged crank, forged rods, and hypereutectic pistons. The pistons are the weak link in the rotating assembly, but there have been many 4 valve Cobras making in excess of 1000 hp at the crank with stock bottom ends. This is pushing it though.

The most power I have read about being held by a stock LS1 shortblock is around 850 hp at the crank. That is really pushing it!

What's more important in my opinion is how easily the LS1 f-bodies can absolutely open a can of whoop a$$ on modular Ford's in the 1/4 mile with basically stock internals. The current completely stock bottom end and stock heads LS1 is I believe still 9.64 @ 138.

It takes a ton-o-boost, internal work, and a heavily modified suspension to get a Mustang or Cobra into the 9's.

Yeah, that video is very deceiving. The shutdown area is up hill so it is just an optical illusion that the track itself is downhill. It is Byron Dragway in Rockford, IL. It is an IHRA track and thus must have passed a laser level test.

Na I didn't win the bet. The bet was that an ls1 stock bottom end could hold as much power as the modular ford. And I told him there was no way a modular ford could handle 1000 plus hp! haha but still the video is very impressive and I don't think the 1000 hp fords were even runing those kind of numbers! So you are saying that black car only had 850 hp?

kruck, the 03+ Cobra motor has a forged bottom end built for forced induction. Of course it holds more than the LS1 does...

But if you look at pre-03 Cobras... those things puke rods left and right around 500-600 HP... and the 2V GT motors are on borrowed time above 420 rwhp.
Former Ride: 2002 Pontiac Trans Am WS6 - 345 rwhp, 360 rwtq... stock internally.

              Current Ride: 2006 Subaru Legacy GT Limited - spec.B #312 of 500

The car in that video was making more around 730'ish at the crank. On that run in the video his stock 10 bolt finally let go after several hundred passes. Broke the ring gear. He is supposedly putting in a 12 bolt and upping the n20 jets. That's the way you go racing.

You have to be kidding, I even find that hard to believe and I am a die hard chevy fan! lol I would guess that the 10 bolt was only good to about a low 12 second car. I never would think it could hold that hard of a launch and that kind of time!

That 10 bolt was definitely a freak! But it does go to show that the 7.5" 10 bolt is a little stronger than everyone on the bandwagon makes it out to be.
