  • 2005 GTO...You got a beast Ken.

    Thought I'd share...

I was on my back home from Road Atlanta after Formula D; great event I might add, and I'm doing my usual 65-70ish mph. There's tons of cars, imports or what not on 85 south. A few was practically begging me for a run...I don't bite. EVOs, STis, a couple of other F-bods...but I didn't race, I just cruised along enjoying the drive. All of a sudden, a red GTO (looks stock) briskly passes by me on the driver side...it's a 6.0, I see the badge and dual exhuast in the corners...I must admit, it's sweet; it still had it's dealer tag. Still doing my 65 he slows from what seemed to be 75ish. WOW, it's a clean automobile, I'm telling myself...then a 98+ Z28 pulls next to the GTO on its driverside. Oh boy, you can just feel the tension...LOL. Before you know it, you hear a loud rumble and the Z28 blasts off. Not your usual LS1, it had goodies...but the real surprise was the GTO. You couldn't hear it...at least not from the inside of my car. Then you just get a loud WOOOOOOOoooooSSssshhhh...almost like a turbine; the GTO's rear end sqwats, the front end lifts and it flattens my eye balls as it took off like a bat out of hell. My brother and I exact word was "D@@@@@@mmmmnnnn!!!"

    I'm getting a GTO.

Oh yeah...the GTO passes the Z28 with no problem what so ever. One word: SICK.

yeah, the one I saw didn't have the "appreance package". I had no idea how fast these things are. Faster than me that's for sure. He could eat me for dinner...I'm seriously thinking about picking up a 6.0 GTO as a replacment for my TA. OF course that'll be in later in the future...I heard it's a world of difference inside too. Man oh man...I still get chills thinking about it.

I guess Ken and I vary on break in pholosophies. Mine has 100 miles on it and I had my first race last night. Drive it like you stole it from day 1 for me. lol

I've always broke them in hard. They were usually faster than most at the track. 12.97 stock 99 WS6 A4 and 12.82 stock 02 SS A4. The GTO I have is a 6 speed and I'm still remembering how to drive these things. I'll get it down the track as soon as I can find all the gears.............

With what you are describing, it sounds like the GTO was turbo'ed.

I had an LS1 with some "goodies" ... it was noticeably faster than stock ... 345 rwhp, I would imagine would be a good run for the LS2 GTO.

If you're describing a walk-away with a "whoosh"... I'm certain there was a turbo under there.
Former Ride: 2002 Pontiac Trans Am WS6 - 345 rwhp, 360 rwtq... stock internally.

              Current Ride: 2006 Subaru Legacy GT Limited - spec.B #312 of 500

but nobody makes a kit that im aware of yet.........

the stock exhaust sounds like that under full throttle..........

A very good sound! The stock GTO exhaust does sorta have a "wooosh" sound to it but a bone stock LS2 GTO shouldn't pull away like that from a LS1 Camaro with "goodies".

If the F-Body was an A4 at 65 - 70, It is a dog. At least mine was. Now let's say the GTO were an M6 v FBod A4. The GTO will clean up on the highway. So many gears to choose from.

the z28 was an auto...you could hear it kick down. No doubt it was an auto. I don't know what kind of "goodies" it had, but it wasn't stock; a cat-back at least. The GTO was indeed a manual...and yes, the GTO walked the Z28, at least from my vantage point. No turbos here, I would know it if I heard it...all I heard was that "whooosh" that sounded like a giant industrial vacuum cleaner...

I've never seen how my car takes off from the outside so I can't compare, but from seeing how that GTO rocketed off - he'd probably beat the crap out of my TA...

I had to drive my car to work this morning in the rain due to the fact my ride bailed out on me. For the first time, I saw an LS2 GTO on the streets....of course it was in the rain though. There was granny me, driving slow and easing it thinking I actually have traction problems. Then there's this guy, no dealer stickers or anything so it's actually his, driving his LS2 like an idiot this morning. Consistently nailing it (or just giving it extra gas, I hear 'dem LS2's have a bit of power ) from around 30 mph and constantly fishtailing. Granted it was cool to watch, but who honestly keeps doing that over and over again.

I must say though, it inspired me to give it a bit of extra gas on my next turn when I noticed there weren't any cars there

Man....I will say, they are growing on me more and more every day. Too bad I'm only a 19 year old student....I want one so badly.
black 95 t/a, a4, beefed up tranny w/ higher stall converter, transgo shift kit, trans temp gauge, trans cooler, richmond 3.73's, loudmouth, hypertech programmer, 160 thermo, descreened maf, TB bypass and airfoil, trick flow intake elbow, underdrive pulleys, moroso cai, edelbrock panhard rod, bmr stb, slp sfc's, fiberglass firehawk hood, hawk pads, taylor wires, ngk plugs, royal purple fluids,...and hopefully more to come

There is only about a 2.5% - 3% difference in drivetrain loss between a 4L60E and a T-56. Either way a full bolt on LS1 will give a stock LS2 GTO a run for the money any day any time.

The bottom line is there are too many variables, and more importantly, there are too many unknows with these 2 cars to make an educated guess.

It's not about the drivetrain loss, it's about the gearing... durrrr... and 65 mph is a "dead spot" for the A4.
