  • Tranny Problems...Need insight/advice...

Just last week I had my car in for a tranny fluid leek last week. That was fixed and they also did a power flush...I didn't ask for it so they ended up not charging me. I usually get it done once/year. The guy at the shop (AAMCO) said that everything looked fine then.

This morning I'm on the highway and lose 4th gear...then 3rd won't hold. So I'm stuck at 2nd. Drove a couple miles to a parking lot and had it towed back to the shop.

I haven't had any work done on the tranny other than fluid changes. It has almost 127k on it now. Any guesses on what's wrong??

I'm also considering selling for an LS1, so I don't know if I want to go all out for a whole new tranny right now...

You probably roasted the 3-4 clutches......at 127k, thats not unusual. Sometimes, a flush can aggravate a previously existing problem.....so they were ready to go. It could be an elec. issue, but the fact that you were driving along and then it dropped out of gear, and then never went back in, tells me probably not.....rebuild time.

The upside is that its time for upgrades!

If you dont fix the trans, then you'll be taking a big hit on the selling price. (Keep me in mind if you decide to sell it with the bad tranny)

Thanks for the quick response! I figured it was the clutches, but I wasn't certain. If I was going to go big with a cam or forced induction I might look for some tranny upgrades. I'll just do a basic rebuild now and keep my eyes open for my next car.
