Depends what you mean by a "kit". If you buy a "383" rotating assembly, you will get a crank, connecting rods (you specify desired length) and a set of 4.030" pistons with rings. You will need to get your block bored out to 4.03x". You will need to have your main bearings align bored to insure the crnak will be straight. You will need to have the block "clearanced" so the connecting rods don't hit it. Your oil pan may have to be "dimpled" to clear the crank. You will probably want to have the stock oil pump blueprinted, a pickup of the correct length and diameter tack welded to the pump, and an 80psi spring added to the pump. Probably a few other things you might want to do while its apart.
You need to consider an upgrade to the timing set - cam and crank sprocket and chain. Point is, if you buy a "kit" you still have work to do. If you don't want to do that work, get a 383 "short block".
The LT4 conversion will be closer to 400 flywheelHP.... maybe a little more, but 425HP was arrived at with a few extra parts, no accessories on the engine and tuning via a $3000 aftermarket ECU. With a good set of LT1 heads and a decent cam, you would probably be at 450 flywheel HP fairly easilly (LT4 HOT cam is too small for a 383).Fred
