  • I need your help guys! Please!

Hi Guys! Sorrry to bother you, but I need help

    I have a 1997 Z28 with 85Kmiles on the clock!

Under the bottom of my car makes a loud thumping noise everytime I pull out unlessI pull out slow and easy. It still shifts fine though.

What is involved in changing a transmission mount. I bought one from auto zone which was called the anchor mount and I bought one of the energy supension mounts too!

Which one should I use? Please explain what I must do in order to change it.

How hard is it? Can I get too it if I use ramps. Do I have to jack the transmission or support the transmission?

Should I take it too a dealer and let them do it?

Please let me know? Thanks Lee!

Well I have good news, a trans mount is about as easy as it comes. Took me about 10 minutes all together. Just jack it up (ramps should work as well), and get yourself under there. At the tailshaft of the tranny, you'll see the trans mount right there. 1 bolt...pretty easy. Take off, replace, put back together.

I'm gonna try and get a pic for you right now...

If it's an automatic like mine( which may not matter) it's simple,I break mine all the time. Lift the car up, support it on jack stands, put a jack under the tail end of the tranny, then take off the tranny mount bolt in the middle of the crossmember, then take of the crossmember, switch out the mount, and put it all back together.

It isn't though, I was just typing quick cuz I'm trying to multi-task here at work. It's the same, the bolt comes right through the tranny crossmember at the tailshaft. I replaced mine once with a polyurethane one....no problems since. Costed me 20 big ones at autozone. It's usually wise to support the tailshaft as well. I figured the 6 trans-engine bolts were more than enough, but I was just over killing it to make sure when i did it as well.

Okay, I tried finding a good picture, but I honestly couldn't right now
Sorry about that, but when you get under there, it is surprisingly easy. You can't miss the crossmember that goes under the tail shaft of the trans with a bolt coming right through the dead center of it.

Also, in response to another question you had. I would use energy suspension. I've heard nothing about "anchor mount", but I have heard things on energy suspension....mostly good.
