That doesn't really sound like a bad idea. At work, people have a tendency to park so close to me that i need a can opener to get in/out.Red 95 Trans Am: M6, Moroso CAI, Magnaflow, Spohn sway bars, back to life as of 2/15/10!!!
SOLD- Kinda miss it
94 Del Sol VTEC: 27 city/ 33 highway, knee deep in slowness

I have always thought of how much easier it would be to get out of your car in tight parking lots with doors like that anyway. Just seems more logical from an engineering standpoint. I was at wall mart the other day and the parking spaces keep getting smaller and smaller and the SUV's and trucks get larger and larger. I had to SUV's park on both sides of me the other day and I could open my door maybe 15 inches and had to do the chicken dance to get into my car.
You could always do what I have done to my jeep wrangler, just take the doors completely off in the summer.1995 Z28 Convertible, 350ci LT1 73K miles M6.

What bothers me most about it is the quality. In order for the door to open like that it would have to come out 6" first, then pivot up. Designing a hinge and latching mechanism to do that effectively would be very complex. You would be constantly dealing with the corners getting banged up if everything was not perfect. I just cannot see some kit having the quality and thought put into it to do this effectively.Tracy

I've seen them on a couple of the car tuning shows. On unique whips they put the doors on Marcus Camby's Corvette. I admit on the vette they looked very cool. I think they mentioned the kit to do it was around 5k!!!
Anyway, our doors are very long. I think that is one of the issues with doing it.
BTW, what's wrong with painted interiors?!?

do it to a v6. I wouldn't do things that you will regret later on to a firehawk. That would turn off a lot of people if you ever decide to sell.97 Chevy 'Raro Z28 M6- Ported & Polished LT1 heads,beehives,1.6/1.94 valves, 226/231 custom cam,K&N FIPK, 94-95 BBK shorty's,ORY,Magnaflow Catback,no cats,BMR LCA Relocation Brackets,Lower Control Arms,Adjustable Panhard Bar,Eibach Pro Kit,SPEC Stage 1,Walbro 255 Fuel Pump,30LB Injectors,Pro 5.0,Short stick,MSD 8.5's,NGK TR55's,LT4KM

I like the idea to a certain extent, but I wonder if you would have to roll the windows down first, for some reason, like for weight balance or something, before opening the doors. My 99 Camaro is just as hard to get in and out of as my son's 97 Firebird. Even if I park in a parking space with plenty of room to open the doors (I normally do), it is still a chore to get in and out of our cars. You literally have to climb in and climb out. That is why I can't understand lowering one of these cars. You are already scraping the road every time you drive in and out of a parking lot, and lowering it just makes that worse as well as trying to get in and out of the car. I don't know, I guess I would definitely go along with doing the Lambo doors on my son's car, but not on my Camaro. I am satisfied with keeping the Camaro stock for now, but he has done nothing but try to destroy the Firebird since he got it anyway, (teenagers) so screwing up the doors wouldn't be that big of a disaster, except for the expense I guess.
So, do I like the Lambo doors? Yes, as long as it is on someone elses car

As I said previously, the thought of doing the vertical doors was for practical reasons and not for appearance. I have searched throughtout the internet just to see a Trans Am or a Firehawk with a vertical door kit installed and I have yet to see one.
I would think that "if" installing a vertical door kit on a T/A or a 'Hawk (with or without a t-top) there would be some thought PRIOR to installing it. Once it is installed, logically you would have to lower the windows either an inch or all the way down to get the effect.
I do agree about installing it on a V6 since it does not have the prestige as its older brother the V8.
